What Browns fans want to see from Deshaun Watson

On Sunday September 8th ,2024, the Cleveland Browns will host the Dallas Cowboys to start their 2024 NFL regular season. Browns fans have curbed their enthusiasm on the Browns in 2024. This is mainly because of a disappointing AFC Wildcard game playoff loss. And that was the last game when starters played since December 28th ,2023, when the team clinched the AFC playoff spot with a Thursday night win over the New York Jets. Deshaun Watson was missing for that playoff run due to injury. And fans haven’t seen Watson play in the 2024 preseason. What do Cleveland Browns fans want to see from Watson in 2024?

The one misconception on the 2023 Cleveland Browns was the defensive performance on the road. In fact, the offense and special teams had turnovers that led to double digit points in 4 road games. This is not including the 2023 season finale in Cincinnati when starters were rested for the playoffs. So, the key for less points-allowed for the Browns on the road is to protect the football. Less turnovers lead to less points for the opponent. Deshaun Watson must protect the football in 2024 to have success. With this Cleveland Browns defense and overall roster, Watson doesn’t have to be an elite quarterback.

In 2023 Deshaun Watson started 6 games for the Cleveland Browns. This is if you count the Indianapolis Colts start when he was still hurt. His record was 5-1 in 2023. The only bad game he had was in Pittsburgh on Monday Night Football. In that game 2 turnovers led to 14 Pittsburgh points. The Browns lost that game by 4 points. Stats like quarterback rating, passing yards, and PFF scores are great talking points for an argument. But Brown fans care about wins and losses. To justify the salary and draft capital in the trade to get Watson. He must win consistently. And he should do that starting on September 8th against Dallas.
