Week 8 Daily Fantasy Football Preview
Welcome to the Daily Fantasy Preview. This weekly article will dive into all the best values and bets for the upcoming week of NFL action. If you’re a competitive DFS player or want a leg up on the weekend’s betting action, this is the place for you! Let’s dive into the Week 8 slate.
Note: All fantasy statistics mentioned in this article are based on Draft Kings salaries and player and team rankings. The value options mentioned should be viable on most DFS platforms and sportsbooks.
SUNDAY DFS DARLINGS (VALUE PLAYS UNDER $5,500 SALARY)
Draft Kings NFL Classic $3.5M Fantasy Football Millionaire. Entry $20. $1M to 1st. 9-player roster.
QB SAM HOWELL (WAS) vs. PHI – $5,200
Howell enters a favorable matchup against a generous Philly secondary in a game where he’ll likely be called upon to throw a lot to keep up with the high-flying Eagles offense. His has a top 10 ceiling in Week 8, and at this price he’s solid value at the QB position.
QB KENNY PICKETT (PIT) vs. JAX– $4,900
Pickett is coming off his best individual performance of the season against the Rams in Week 7, and although it didn’t equate in a massive fantasy outing, it provides hope that he can put forth a useable performance in a plus matchup against Jacksonville, who has given up the 11th most points to opposing QBs in 2023.
RB GUS EDWARDS (BAL) vs. AZ – $5,500
Edwards finally broke out with a big performance to go along with his elite volume for Baltimore. He gets another great matchup against the Cardinals, and he fits just in my $5,500 or less cutoff for value plays. He’s worth sliding into a roster spot at this price.
RB CHUBA HUBBARD (CAR) vs. HOU – $4,800
Hubbard has been slowly earning more and more work for a Carolina team trying to find anything to get a sluggish offense going, and this opportunity against Houston presents a solid matchup at a value pricetag for a player with a fairly high ceiling.
WR TERRY MCLAURIN (WAS) vs. PHI – $5,300
McLaurin has been underwhelming by his standards in 2023, but this matchup could see the breakout we’ve been waiting for. As already mentioned, this Eagles secondary is suspect and can be exploited in a game that should be high-scoring and pass-happy for both teams. It’s rare a player of McLaurin’s caliber can be started at this kind of price. Take advantage.
WR DIONTAE JOHNSON (PIT) – $5,100
In Diontae Johnson’s much anticipated return (for Steelers fans, anyway), he tallied a solid 5 catches on 6 targets for 79 yards. Though he hasn’t logged a TD in 20 straight games, Johnson’s useage is still extremely solid and his target share should grow in his second game back from IR.
WR ROMEO DOUBS (GB) – $4,900
Doubs is a favorite target of Jordan Love, especially when fellow wideout Christian Watson is hampered or out due to injury. That could be the case again this week, and the Packers are due a bounce-back game at home against Minnesota after a rough outing against Denver last week. For Doubs, his 4 receiving TDs in 6 games leads the team, and Love looks his way often in the Red Zone. Great value play this week.
TE DALLAS GOEDERT (PHI) vs. WAS – $4,600
Goedert is on quite a roll as one of QB Jalen Hurts’ top targets in a soaring passing attack. With 18 rec, 236 yds, & 2 TDs in his last 3 games, the talented TE is back on track after a rough start to the year. Ride with him this week against a moribund Commanders secondary that has really struggled to stop TEs in 2023.
TE JAKE FERGUSON (DAL) vs. LAR – $3,600
Afte a fairly impressive start to the season, things have cooled off for Ferguson in recent weeks. In his last appearance he earned just a single catch on a single target. You have to like the matchup this week against the Rams, and if he is afforded opportunities like he garnered earlier this season, he could be an incredible value play in Week 8.
