Tough Times Don’t Last, But Tough Fans Do

In week 10 of the 2024 NFL season the Cleveland Browns go into the bye week with a 2-7 record. They lost their last game at home against the Los Angeles Chargers 27-10. Prior to the season starting Browns fans had reasonably high expectations for this season. This was based on the 2023 11-6 record and playoff season despite the rash of injuries. Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski won NFL coach of the year for the second time in 4 seasons in 2023. That along with Myles Garrett winning defensive player of the year and Jim Schwartz winning assistant coach of the year. Cleveland Browns fans were both optimistic and pensive about the 2024 season.

To say that the 2024 season hasn’t gone well for the Cleveland Browns would be an understatement. What I like to do is talk to fans before games while tailgating to get perspective. Something that many other beat reporters don’t do. A quick shout out to Adam for giving me a bottle of water while tailgating behind Cleveland City Hall. The feeling I get from most Browns fans is disappointment. The disappointment is understandable. A 2-7 record is not going bring good feelings to any fan base. There is an increased drum beat to fire the coach and general manager. The problem with that is we have been there and done that in the past.

Before 2020 when the Browns hired both Andrew Berry as general manager and Kevin Stefanski as head coach, the Cleveland Browns had a revolving door of coaches and general managers since the expansion era began in 1999. I don’t want to go back to that. During those times Browns fans wanted stability we have had that for 4 1/2 seasons.  Stability is something the Browns can build from to turn around this season and the future of this organization.

Regardless of what happens during the 2024 bye week and beyond this season. Come fall of 2025, Browns fans will tailgate and show up to Cleveland Browns home games. Because that is what we do every NFL season. We are not only the best and most loyal fans in football. We are also the toughest fans in football because no one else has gone through what we have gone through in the past. And we will endure because that is what we do.
