To the fans Cheering about an injured player

On Sunday afternoon October 20th,2024, the Cleveland Browns hosted division their division rival Cincinnati Bengals. The game itself became a secondary storyline, this is because quarterback Deshaun Watson was carted off the field with an Achilles Tendon injury and is probably out for the 2024 season. There were fans in attendance that found it to be appropriate to cheer the fact that a player was injured. To be fair, it wasn’t all the fans, and it wasn’t all Browns fans either. There Bengals fans at the game that were guilty of this disgusting behavior too. If you do not like a player for whatever reason- that is fine. But people must remember that we are human beings first and foremost. And unfortunately, this isn’t the first time that this has happened.

In 2002 on a Sunday Night Football game the Cleveland Browns hosted the Baltimore Ravens. Then Browns quarterback Tim Couch had a concussion and left the field with fans cheering his backup Kelly Holcomb coming into the game. After the game Couch big express his disappointment in the fan’s behavior. In the 1970’s Terry Bradshaw had the same thing happen to him in Pittsburgh. Fran Tarkenton had a similar situation in New York with the Giants, Danny White with the Cowboys, and Ken O’Brien with the Jets. It is not just a Cleveland issue; it is a fan issue.

After yesterday’s game Browns defensive end Myles Garrett called out the horrible fans cheering a player injury. And even more so quarterback Jameis Winston went into detail on how all NFL players put their bodies on the line for fans. The least people can do is respect that. Regardless of how feel about Deshaun Watson and the trade, the man is a human being and so are we. We all need to be better at being human beings.
