The Reason for the Browns Offensive Struggles
As the Cleveland Browns prepare to travel to Washington D.C. to play the up-and-coming Washington Commanders. Much scrutiny has been put on the team. The defensive has not been as dominate as it was in 2023. The offense has struggled to score points. The 1-3 start is disappointing. There are legitimate reasons for this slow start. And it does start with the offense and the lack of complementary football.
Much criticism has been put on the Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski for not playing starters in the preseason. The offense has underperformed this season. Currently the Cleveland Browns have the 29th ranked offense in the NFL. And they have yet to score over 20 points in a game. And there are reasons this is happening. Play calling is not any of them.
Last week in Las Vegas the Cleveland Browns offense was down 6 starters due to injuries. Both tackles Jed Wills and Jack Conklin were inactive for the game. Along with tight end David Njoku and running back Nick Chubb. Right guard Wyatt Teller and Center Ethan Pocic were also out because of being injured. Having that happen to any NFL offense stacks the deck against them.
Keep in mind the Cleveland Browns also lead the league in dropped passes. Veteran wide receiver Amari Cooper has had a horrible start to the 2024 season. The replacement right tackle Dewand Jones appears to be playing hurt. His production is nowhere near what it was in 2023. But there is some good news for Browns fans.
Running back Nick Chubb will begin practicing with the team this week. David Njoku already started practicing last week. Center Ethan Pocic will be day to day with his injury. And don’t forget it is still early in the season. And there is time to turn things around on offense. And getting players back and healthy is a good start to that.
