The most impactful Offseason moves for the Cleveland Browns
This week the Cleveland Browns will travel to the Greenbrier in White Sulphur Springs West Virginia to open their 2024 training camp. The Browns were proactive in their 2024 offseason. Every team opens their camp with hope and optimism. And this season with the Cleveland Browns is no different and here is why.
On March 13th,2024, the Cleveland Browns traded with the Denver Broncos for wide receiver Jerry Jeudy. The Browns sent Denver a 5th and 6th round draft pick in return for the former 1st round pick wide receiver. Shortly after the trade the Browns extended the contract of Jerry Jeudy. He is in the team’s long-term plans and can be projected as an excellent number 2 wide receiver. The depth in the wide receiver room was an offseason need that was addressed with this trade. The next need was the quarterback room.
Due to Deshaun Watson’s shoulder injury, in 2023 the Cleveland Browns were forced to win games with quarterback play from PJ Walker, Dorian Thomson-Robinson, and Joe Flacco. The team still made the playoffs. But they don’t want to be put in that position again in 2024. So, they signed two veteran free agent quarterbacks that have made the pro bowl. Both Jameis Winston and Ty Huntley were signed by the Cleveland Browns in the 2024 NFL free agency period. These signings are a 2024 insurance policy at quarterback. We all remember the disaster of the last years last minute start for Dorian Thomson -Robinson at home against Baltimore. The Browns don’t want that to happen again this season. The Cleveland Browns made other moves in the 2024 offseason regarding the defense.
Linebackers Jordan Hicks and Devin Bush were free agent signings by the Cleveland Browns last spring. The Browns lost both LB Anthony Walker and LB Sione Taki Taki in free agency. The team feels that these signings are an upgrade at that position. And DT Quinton Jefferson was signed to replace DT Jordan Elliott who also left as a free agent. He is also considered to be an upgrade at his position as well.
NFL rosters have some degree of turnover in every offseason. The better teams have less turnover on their rosters. The Cleveland Browns 2024 roster had minimal change to it. It shows that they are a good and competitive team. It just needs to show on the field starting September 8th against Dallas.
