The Emergence of Jerry Jeudy for the Cleveland Browns

On March 13th ,2024, the Cleveland Browns traded for Denver Broncos wide receiver Jerry Jeudy. The Browns sent the Broncos their 2024 4th and 6th round picks in return for the former first round pick. Jeudy was the Denver Broncos first round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. He was picked 15th overall. Jeudy’ s tenure in Denver did not go well.

In four seasons in Denver Jeudy did not have a 1,000-yard season for receptions. The closest he got was in 2022 with 972 receiving yards. For a high draft pick out of the University of Alabama, the production did not meet expectations. Many reasons have been given about Jeudy’ s lack of production one of them was the subpar quarterback play in Denver. Regardless of the reasons for Jerry Jeudy not working out in Denver. The result was the Cleveland Browns gain.

Browns general manager Andrew Berry seems to find former first round picks that teams give up on as players. Berry will give them another chance in the NFL. In February of 2022, he traded for Amari Cooper by sending the Dallas Cowboys a fifth-round pick. In 2023 Berry signed free agent defensive tackles Maurice Hearst and Shelby Harris for defensive line depth. The Jerry Jeudy trade was another move that fits Berry’s philosophy. And in the first two games in the 2024 season. The move looks to have paid dividends for the Browns.

Shortly after the trade, Jeudy was extended by the Browns. The 25-year-old receiver was signed for the long term with the organization. In Jeudy’ s first two games with the Browns he has 8 receptions for 98 yards and 1 touchdown. The numbers don’t tell the whole story. Jeudy made plays at key moments in both games.  As the 2024 season continues, his production and chemistry with Deshaun Watson can only get better. And the Cleveland Browns along with their fans can still hope for the best.
