The Cleveland Browns Fire 2 assistant coaches, now what?

On Sunday January 5th ,2025, early in the morning hours and within 24 hours of losing their season finale in Baltimore Maryland to the Ravens 35-10. The Cleveland Browns fired their offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey and offensive line coach Andy Dickerson. To say that the Cleveland Browns offensive line and offensive unit underperformed in 2024 is a gross understatement. These moves were expected to be made by the Browns, but many Cleveland Browns fans wonder what they can expect this offseason. We must first look at what these early offseason moves mean.

The early firing of two assistant coaches this soon into the offseason shows that both head coach Kevin Stefanski and general manager Andrew Berry jobs are safe this offseason. But they must do better than 3 wins in 2025. I would expect the team to move quickly to fill their vacant assistant coaching positions. Browns offensive assistant Tom Reese is considered the top internal candidate for the offensive coordinator position. I also would expect the overall offensive scheme to go back to what worked best for the Browns prior to 2024. Turnover in coaches on a 3-win team is not a surprise and turnover in players would also be expected.

The 3-14 2024 record has earned the Cleveland Browns the 2nd overall pick in the NFL Draft this April. Mock drafts, speculation and debate will be the norm until late April. I have already seen trade back scenarios for this team. Even though a quarterback is what this team desperately needs, they must be prudent and wise on this decision. Deshaun Watson was a big miss for this team. They cannot afford to miss on a quarterback that is a high draft pick. Many think that this year’s quarterback draft class is not worth a high draft pick. And the Browns can draft a quarterback in next years draft class. The question will be who will be making the pick for the Cleveland Browns in 2026? If they win only 3 games in 2025, it won’t be Andrew Berry and Kevin Stefanski.
