Statistics through first six seasons have Mahomes over Brady

The title of this article most likely grabbed your attention, but just know that there is no reason for it to be a click bait type of story. The fact of the matter is this – Quarterback Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs has been a starter in the league for six seasons, and through those seasons he already has better statistics than long time New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady.

Sports debating occurs every single day among fans and the question of who the greatest quarterback of all time (G.O.A.T) is has been debated heavily over the years. Most recently, Brady has surpassed Joe Montana for the title of greatest of all time for the position due to his Championships and stats. However, nobody knew that history would forever change when the Chiefs drafted Mahomes from Texas Tech University in 2017.

The now 28-year-old signal caller is on track to surpass Brady and his Championship wins but also his statistics through the first six seasons are much better.

Brady Statistics (Through 6 Seasons Starting):ย

  • 82-26 (Includes Playoffs)
  • 3 AFC Titles
  • 167 Touchdowns to 87 Interceptions
  • 88.4 QB Rating
  • 3 Super Bowl Rings

Mahomes Statistics (Through 6 Seasons Starting):

  • 87-25 (Includes Playoffs)
  • 4 AFC Titles
  • 260 Touchdowns to 70 Interceptions
  • 103.7 QB Rating
  • 3 Super Bowl Rings

Mahomes beats Brady in the following categories (Through 6 seasons starting):

  • Wins
  • AFC Titles
  • Touchdown to Interception Ratio
  • QB Rating

The only area in which he ties Brady is the Super Bowl Championships (3).

In order for Mahomes to be considered the greatest at his position, he needs to either tie Brady for Super Bowl wins (7) and have better statistics overall, or surpass him. If he does not accomplish this, there is no way to put him at the very top of the list. Even though Mahomes will most likely end his career with better passing statistics than Brady, it would be doing a disservice to Brady not to mention how the NFL recently has evolved into a more pass heavy league.

In every thing we do in life there will always be a debate on who takes the top spot for the greatest of all time for a specific position or job. When it comes to the National Football League and the top quarterback of all time, the conversation has adapted over the years with the rise of Mahomes.

Other factors can play a role in choosing a top tier player such as the better statistics, but one of the most important categories on deciding who the greatest athlete of a specific position is would be the Super Bowl wins number. Brady is in a class of his own with seven Super Bowl victories, but with Mahomes at three in six seasons starting, the greatest of all time could soon be the former tenth overall selection.
