Statistic Comparison Shows Lawrence Must Elevate Play for Jaguars in 2024

There is no question that Trevor Lawrence must play better football for the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2024, but did you know that his statistics compared to another NFL quarterback takes this take to another level?

Well, Lawrence’s statistics compared to Gardner Minshew proves that the former first overall pick needs to get his production in check or things may get a little frisky over in Duval County.

Minshew has two seasons of statistics compared to Lawrence’s three and Minshew beats Lawrence in all three categories shown. While diehard fans may disagree and mention how Lawrence is a way better quarterback than Minshew, statistically speaking this is clearly misleading.

In the two seasons where Minshew was the quarterback (2019-2020), the football team had a lackluster defense, a very mediocre offense, and really no playmakers on the offensive side of the football. Despite that, Minshew threw for 37 touchdowns to 11 interceptions and registered a 7-13 record. The 2020 Jaguars football team went 1-15.

Minshew’s Offensive Talent:

2019 Offensive Players:

  • Leonard Fournette
  • D.J Chark
  • Keelan Cole
  • Chris Conley
  • Dede Westbrook
  • Seth DeValve

2020 Offensive Players:

  • James Robinson
  • D.J Chark
  • Keelan Cole
  • Chris Conley
  • Laviska Shenault
  • Tyler Eifert

While these athletes produced to the best of their abilities during the 2019 and 2020 seasons, the majority of them are no longer in the NFL and their production is not top tier. When you compare this to Lawrence and the weapons he had in his three seasons, specifically last year, you get a broader picture of just how he needs to step it up in 2024.

Lawrence’s Offensive Talent:

2021 Offensive Players:

  • Tavon Austin
  • Marvin Jones
  • Laviska Shenault
  • Laqon Treadwell
  • Luke Farrell
  • James O’Shaughnessy

2022 Offensive Players:

  • Travis Etienne
  • Jamal Agnew
  • Zay Jones
  • Christian Kirk
  • Evan Engram
  • Luke Farrell

2023 Offensive Players:

  • Travis Etienne
  • Zay Jones
  • Christian Kirk
  • Calvin Ridley
  • Evan Engram
  • Luke Farrell

The 2023 season had many strong weapons that Lawrence was surrounded with, but despite these weapons, the Jaguars missed the playoffs and finished with a 9-8 record. Lawrence took a step back and finished with 21 touchdowns to 14 interceptions, an 88.5 passer rating.

Wrap-Up:

The key statistic showing Minshew and Lawrence gives Jaguars fans more ammunition on just how important it is for the former Clemson quarterback to get back on the right track. The organization brought in head coach Doug Pederson to help develop Lawrence into a generation type athlete, but so far he has regressed.

If the Jaguars want to make the playoffs in a tough AFC South, their quarterback needs to step up in 2024 and utilize his weapons a bit better. The team just drafted LSU wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr., and with Lawrence in a contract year, he could be the athlete that helps get Lawrence back on track this season.
