Quincy Williams To Green Bay?

The Packers are in need of another great inside linebacker. This is the case because they parted ways with former First-Team All-Pro De’Vondre Campbell, who eventually signed with the San Francisco 49ers as a free agent. Green Bay needs to find a quality player who they could then pair with talented, young linebacker Quay Walker.

Most teams tend to address these kinds of big needs during free agency or the draft, which will take place in Detroit next month. Fortunately, the Packers have 11 draft picks, including five in the top 100. They have real ammunition for a trade. What if they traded for an elite defender like All-Pro Quincy Williams?

Possible Trade Compensation

Williams is one of the best linebackers in the league. That is not a debate. He was named a First-Team All-Pro  after setting career highs in nearly every major category. He recorded 139 total tackles, 95 solo tackles, 15 tackles for loss,10 pass deflections, and two forced fumbles. The former third-round pick is the real deal, and he’s one of the reasons why the Jets have one of the best defenses in football.

New York would be unwise to part with him. He and C.J. Mosley are one of the best linebacking duos out there. But if GM Brian Gutekunst wanted to entice the Jets, he would have to offer at least a second-round pick. Ironically enough, it would have to be the second-round pick (No. 41) Green Bay got in the Aaron Rodgers trade. Gutekunst would also need to offer a mid-round pick too. Their fourth-rounder (No. 125) seems right. The Jets would be a lot more open to the idea too because Green Bay is out of the conference. They wouldn’t need to play against Williams.

How Williams Would Fit

Williams and Quay Walker together would be outstanding. Walker has recorded nearly 240 total tackles over his first two NFL seasons. With his sideline-to-sideline speed and vision, plus everything that Quincy Williams brings, defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley would have a lot of talent in the middle of his defense in his first season with the Packers. This would be the ultimate win-now move for Gutekunst and Matt LaFleur.
