Perception vs. Reality, Watson and Stefanski Podcast
Last week at University Heights Deshaun Watson and Kevin Stefanski made an appearance on the QB Unplugged Podcast. The Podcast was done live at the Grand Opening of Lefty’s Cheesesteaks sandwich shop. The shop is an investment of Deshaun Watson. The Podcast gave a candid look into the quarterback head coach relationship between the two men.
Stefanski started by saying that a championship trophy is more important than a coach of the year trophy. Watson went on to praise Stefanski as a coach and a leader of men. Sometimes public praises seem contrived and fake. But this seemed genuine and sincere. I believe that Deshaun made the decision to come to Cleveland because of Coach Stefanski. The breakdown of plays from a game were even more insightful.
During the Podcast Watson and Stefanski broke down some plays from last years season opener against the Cincinnati Bengals. They showed the thought process and strategy of play calls and the execution of the plays. Coach Stefanski even explained the weather adjustments that were made during the game. Both showed the collaboration process during the week of game preparation and how adjustments are made during a game.
Both Watson and Stefanski went to explain the actual little amount of time during halftime of an NFL game. Stefanski stated that conversations between coaches are on the headsets that begin with 5 minutes remaining in the half. He went on to explain that if you are waiting until halftime to adjust, then you are way behind the game. The Podcast also showed that perception is not always reality.
The QB Unplugged show last week showed the actual relationship between Coach Stefanski and Deshaun Watson. Not a perceived rift between them. Stefanksi did not need to be there to show support for Watson and he didn’t have to appear on the podcast either. But he did do both because he was sincere in his support. And Watson made sure to let people know his appreciation for his coach. Let’s hope that Browns fans see that appreciation this fall on field.
