Packers to Sign Pro Bowl RB Josh Jacobs, release Aaron Jones

It was not long after the release of both De’Vondre Campbell and David Bakhtiari that the Packers decided to get to work adding pieces to the team. According to the NFL Network, the Packers are expected to sign two-time Pro Bowl running back Josh Jacobs.

Jacobs, 26, has three career 1,000-yard rushing seasons and has recorded over 1,100 scrimmage yards each season of his five-year career, including one 2,000-yard scrimmage season. He is one of the most productive backs in football and coming off a season that saw him eclipse 1,100 scrimmage yards despite missing four games.

This was not the only stunner move from Green Bay. After the move to bring in Josh Jacobs, Green Bay released Pro Bowl back and seven-year veteran Aaron Jones. Jacobs comes in to seemingly replace Jones, who will now see if he can find a better deal elsewhere.

If Jones signs with another team, he will leave Green Bay after seven great seasons. In franchise history, he ranks third in rushing yards, first in average yards per rush, fourth in rushing touchdowns, and fourth in rushing attempts. He will be in the Packers Hall of Fame and will go down as one of the best offensive players in the team’s history.

Packers fans will be feeling a lot of emotions right now and in the very near future. They gain a younger, healthier star running back in Jacobs. However, they lose a franchise favorite in Jones. Now, the next question is whether or not the team decides to bring back A.J. Dillon.
