Packers to Cut Franchise Cornerstone David Bakhtiari

There is a changing of the guard, or tackle, in Green Bay, Wisconsin right now. According to David Bakhtiari himself on social media, he and the Packers are parting ways after 11 seasons. Bakhtiari, now 32, will be looking to continue his great career elsewhere. Until knee injuries slowed him down each of the last three seasons, Bakhtiari was arguably the best left tackle in the sport. The five-time All-Pro has started each of the 131 career games that he has played in.

Green Bay will enter a new era along the offensive line with presumably Rasheed Walker taking over at left tackle. Also, there are just two Ted Thompson draft picks left on the roster (Kenny Clark, Aaron Jones). With the releases of David Bakhtiari and De’Vondre Campbell over the last 24 hours, the current average age of Green Bay is 24.9.

Over the last few seasons, the Packers have cut ties with Aaron Rodgers, David Bakhtiari, Davante Adams, Randall Cobb, De’Vondre Campbell, Za’Darius Smith, Dean Lowry, Mason Crosby, and a host of other veterans. The Packers, led by Matt LaFleur and Jordan Love, are in a totally new era led by a lot of youth and talent.

Look for the Jets to be a real landing spot for Bakhtiari. With Aaron Rodgers as the signal-caller and with New York’s offensive line issues, it seems like a really good situation.

Regardless, the Packers are clearly confident in their current offensive line and were certainly ready to clear up over $20 million in cap space. It is a new era in Green Bay.
