Packers Tender Running Back Emanuel Wilson

After the news of the Packers re-signing running back A.J. Dillon surfaced, the Packers also tendered running back Emanuel Wilson. The Packers used the exclusive rights free agent tender on the former undrafted free agent. Before becoming a Packer, Wilson joined the Denver Broncos practice squad early in 2023 after going undrafted out of Fort Valley State.

Wilson would move on to Green Bay and make the team’s active roster at the conclusion of training camp. He would play in seven games for Matt LaFleur as the team’s No. 4 running back last season. He had 14 rushing attempts for 85 yards, as well as four receptions for 23 yards.

At minimum, he will be competing for another roster spot by the time training camp rolls around. Already expected to be on the roster is All-Pro back Josh Jacobs, who signed a four-year deal after the team released fan-favorite Aaron Jones. Also, A.J. Dillon will seemingly be back on the roster after signing his one-year deal to return to Green Bay. However, No. 3 running back from a year ago in Patrick Taylor is now a free agent after he was not tendered.

Prior to April’s draft, Matt LaFleur now has at least three running backs that he knows he will have at his disposal come training camp. Of course, Josh Jacobs is in his own class as one of the league’s best. Dillon is a solid backup, and Wilson is a quality developmental piece. Time will tell to see if Green Bay will address the position further.
