Ohio State Buckeyes Overwhelm Iowa Hawkeyes, 35-7
On Saturday October 5, 2024, at 3:30 pm eastern time, the 4-0 Ohio State Buckeyes hosted the 3-1 Iowa Hawkeyes. Ohio State was ranked 3rd in the AP top 25 and was heavily favored by 17.5 points going into this game. Iowa was not ranked but they have a winning record. It was expected to be another dominating win for Ohio State. And that was exactly what happened in the second half. The first half told a different story though.
On Ohio State’s opening possession of the game Ohio State marched down the field and scored a touchdown. The long drive was capped off with a 14-yard touchdown pass from Will Howard to Emeka Egbuka. The Buckeyes committed two turnovers in the first half. A Jeremiah Smith fumble and a Will Howard interception stalled scoring opportunities for Ohio State. At halftime Ohio State led Iowa by a score of 7-0. The second half was a different game altogether.
On the second half opening possession the Ohio State offense drove down the field for a touchdown. The drive ended with a 4-yard Will Howard touchdown pass to Jeremiah Smith. And that catch was a spectacular one-handed grab by Smith that will end up on many highlights reels this weekend. Ohio State then led Iowa 14-0. On Iowa’s next 3 possessions they turned over the ball three times. After each turnover Ohio State capitalized with a touchdown and with 10:58 remaining in the game. Ohio State took a commanding 35-0 lead over the shell-shocked Iowa Hawkeyes. Iowa did avoid the shutout by scoring their lone touchdown with 8:07 left to play. The final score Ohio State 35 Iowa 7. What lies next for the Buckeyes will be considered the game of the week next weekend.
On Saturday October 12 ,2024, at 7:30 pm the number 3 ranked Ohio State Buckeyes travel to Eugene Oregon to play the 6th ranked Oregon Ducks. This would be considered a College Football Playoff preview. And could be the preview of the National Championship Game as well.
