Ohio State at Michigan State Week 5 Game Preview

On Saturday September 28th ,2024, at 7:30 PM eastern time the Ohio State Buckeyes will travel to Lansing Michigan to take on the Michigan State Spartans. This will be the first road game for the Buckeyes. And it will be the first Big Ten Conference game for Ohio State. Going into this game, Ohio State has maintained their number 3 ranking in the Associated Press top 25 college football rankings. Michigan State is unranked as of this week. Ohio State is 3-0 and a 23.5-point favorite in this game. The 3-1 Spartans are hoping for an upset this weekend.

Michigan State has played spoiler to Ohio State’s National Championship aspirations before. In 1998 Michigan State was unranked and went into Columbus Ohio and defeated the top ranked Ohio State Buckeyes 28-24 in a stunning upset. Also, in 2015 Michigan State was ranked 9th and traveled to Ohio State. The Buckeyes were ranked 3rd that year. Michigan State kicked a last second field goal to beat Ohio State 17-14.  Could history repeat itself in Michigan this Saturday?

In my honest opinion, I don’t think an upset will happen this weekend. I believe like many other reporters that the big matchup for Ohio State will be on October 12th when they travel to Oregon. Oregon is currently ranked 8th by the AP. But before that game, Ohio State must play Michigan State this Saturday. And then they play the Iowa Hawkeyes on October 5th in Columbus. It is never a good idea to start looking ahead of your opponent. That is why upsets happen in sports. It could be a scene that is all too familiar with Ohio State Buckeye’s fans. And those same Buckeyes fans along with head coach Ryan Day don’t want history to be repeated.
