NFL Power Rankings, Week 8: Do We Really Know Anything?

Entering Week 7, five NFL squads sat at 1-5. Four of them came away victorious and all four of their opponents had already logged three or more victories heading into those matchups. As I mentioned last week, parity reigns in the 2023 NFL landscape. It begs the question: do we really know anything about these 32 NFL teams in 2023?

What we do know is every team is flawed. Even at the top, questions abound as to whether or not those flaws will prove fatal in a championship run. For those at the bottom, a good offseason is all that sits between a lost 2023 and getting back in the mix in 2024.

In this addition of the Power Rankings, we’ll look at the floors and ceilings for each squad heading into Week 8. Let’s dive in!

In an intriguing and polarizing 2023 season, the biggest takeaway through 7 weeks is that this is a wide open race in both conferences. I have 22 teams with a playoff ceiling in my rankings, and the majority of teams behind that have a ceiling of only 1-2 games short of a winning record.

Over the next few weeks, we’ll start to see a little more separation between the top teams in the league and the worst. Even still, the phrase “any given Sunday” has never applied more to an NFL season, as evidenced by the worst teams in the league taking down much more impressive squads in Week 7.

It’s been fun so far. Here’s hoping the 2nd half of the season is equally as captivating as the first.
