NFL Power Rankings, Week 16: Projected AFC Playoff Field

Welcome back to the latest edition of my NFL Power Rankings here on Fans First Sports. This week, we’ll break down my projected AFC Playoff field and the chances for each squad to earn a trip to Las Vegas for the Super Bowl. Let’s dive in!

1. BALTIMORE RAVENS

Current Super Bowls Odds: +550

The Ravens are the cream of the crop in a wide-open AFC, and yet their flaws could keep them from reaching the big dance. John Harbaugh’s crew is talented on offense and ferocious on defense, but much of their offensive production is predicated on explosive, off-script plays. If someone can take those away, the Ravens could find themselves in a tough spot.

2. KANSAS CITY CHIEFS

Current Super Bowls Odds: +700

We may all be forgetting the single most important factor when the playoffs roll around: the Chiefs still have Patrick Mahomes. He simply will not be denied in January. Will this year be any different with a lackluster receiving corps and a general lack of explosiveness on offense? Or can a top 5 defense and the best QB on the planet keep the Chiefs in the mix?

3. JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS

Current Super Bowls Odds: +2900

The Jags are trending down at the wrong time. Trevor Lawrence playing hurt hasn’t helped their cause, but there are more issues than just that. The secondary is giving up big plays again, and the offense can disappear for long stretches. They’re a definite contender in this year’s AFC, but they’re shaky at best.

4. BUFFALO BILLS

Current Super Bowls Odds: +1400

Don’t let this team in the playoffs. My preseason pick to be the AFC Champions is absolutely rolling on both sides of the ball, and they finally have an explosive running game to complement Josh Allen’s impeccable play, and the defense is absolutely rounding into form. I have them overtaking the Dolphins over the final three weeks to win the AFC East. It just feels like this team is ready to make some noise.

5. CLEVELAND BROWNS

Current Super Bowls Odds: +6000

The Browns are on the most improbable run of any team in the NFL right now, and it’s because, ironically, they are stable and well-coached on both sides of the ball. When they’re on their game, this is the best defense in the NFL. Joe Flacco is playing like it’s the 2010s again, and the schedule lines up nice for a playoff push. If the Ravens were to slip up a couple times over the next 3 weeks, the Browns could find themselves donning AFC North Champions hats.

6. MIAMI DOLPHINS

Current Super Bowls Odds: +850

I may be lower on the Dolphins than others, but it’s because I believe in QBs like Mahomes, Allen, and Lawrence more than I do Tua. That said, nobody can put up points as quickly or abundantly as the ‘Fins can when they are clicking. They have the league’s toughest remaining schedule though with bouts against the Cowboys, Ravens, and Bills left to go. We’ll find out a lot about this team come playoff time.

7. HOUSTON TEXANS

Current Super Bowls Odds: +7500

Houston isn’t a Super Bowl contender in my opinion, but they could be considered for the title of “team nobody wants to play” if they do indeed make it to the Dance. CJ Stroud and company are just naive enough and good enough to ignore the immense pressure of the playoffs and beat a team like Kansas City on the road.

JUST MISSED:

8. Indianapolis Colts

9. Cincinnati Bengals

10. Pittsburgh Steelers

11. Denver Broncos
