NFL Power Rankings, Week 1: Players of the Game for Each Team

Week 1 is in the books, and the 2024 NFL Season is officially in full gear! There were perennial Superpowers re-establishing themselves atop the league hierarchy and upstart underdogs providing surprise upsets. All combining to give football-starved fans their first taste of what should be a wild season of NFL action!

So how do all 32 squads stack up after their inaugural performances of the season? Let’s dive in!

1. KANSAS CITY CHIEFS

Player of the Game: Rookie WR Xavier Worthy touched the ball 3 times and scored twice. His explosiveness adds a terrifying element to the KC offense not seen since Tyreek Hill tortured defenses as a Chief.

2. SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS

Player of the Game: RB Jordan Mason was a revelation in relief of All-World rusher Christian McCaffrey. His speed, power, and efficiency should help keep the Niners offense rolling for however long CMC needs to get healthy.

3. DETROIT LIONS

Player of the Game: WR Jameson Williams hit the ground running to begin his much-hyped 3rd season for the Lions. 5 receptions on 9 targets for 121 yds and a TD that highlighted his speed and give the Lions another element to their offense.

4. HOUSTON TEXANS

Player of the Game: RB Joe Mixon went off in his Texans debut, displaying burst and vision that appeared to be in decline after last season. His presence balances Houston’s dynamic offense and give’s CJ Stroud and company yet another way to beat you.

5. PHILADELPHIA EAGLES

Player of the Game: RB Saquon Barkley was absolutely electric in his historic debut for the Eagles. The combo of Barkley’s natural abilities and the offensive line’s physicality makes the Eagles a true force to be reckoned with.

6. MIAMI DOLPHINS

Player of the Game: It’s WR Tyreek Hill, who still manages to get wide open in opposing secondaries despite the insane amount of attention he draws on any given play. He’s un-guardable.

7. BUFFALO BILLS

Player of the Game: QB Josh Allen should change his name to Josh “Alien” because this guy is out of this world. No QB is asked to carry his team more, and no QB delivers more often than Allen. He put the Bills on his back in a surprisingly difficult game on Sunday.

8. BALTIMORE RAVENS

Player of the Game: QB Lamar Jackson decided he wasn’t going to let the Chiefs defense intimidate him into playing it safe in the season opener, and he absolutely balled out, specifically on the ground with 100+ rushing yards in Game 1. Despite the loss, Lamar played well.

9. DALLAS COWBOYS

Player of the Game: EDGE Micah Parsons took this game over, leading the Cowboys to an insane pressure rate (44.6%) vs. Deshaun Watson and a team total of 6 sacks, including 1 of his own. It was a dominant performance from one of the best in the game.

10. LOS ANGELES RAMS

Player of the Game: QB Matt Stafford was an absolute magician, especially in the 2nd half where he and Cooper Kupp took over against a ferocious Lions defense. Stafford is still one of the best in the game at age 36.

11. PITTSBURGH STEELERS

Player of the Game: While TJ Watt’s play in this game was superhuman, I wanted to give K Chris Boswell his flowers after a truly exceptional performance including going 6 for 6 on FGs and booting an important 43-yard punt after the team lost P Cam Johnston to a knee injury. Without the Wizard of Boz, Pittsburgh is 0-1.

12. GREEN BAY PACKERS

Player of the Game: WR Jayden Reed went off on the revamped Eagles secondary, piling up 171 yards from scrimmage and 2 total TDs. With Jordan Love set to miss time, Reed’s ability to separate and make big plays will be huge for the Packers.

13. NEW YORK JETS

Player of the Game: WR Allen Lazard was the only receiver to hit paydirt for the Jets, and he did so twice. The Jets defense was on skates all night while the Niner’s defense put the clamps on Breece Hall and Garrett Wilson for much of the night. Lazard was one of the few players in green to take advantage of his opportunities.

14. TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS

Player of the Game: QB Baker Mayfield is working his way into the Top 10 QB discussion after a stellar week 1 performance including 4 TD passes to piggyback his amazing comeback season of 2023. He’s accurate, composed, and plays with extreme confidence.

15. INDIANAPOLIS COLTS

Player of the Game: QB Anthony Richardson makes plays nobody can make, both with his legs and with his arm. He will keep the Colts in every game if he plays like he did on Sunday.

16. CINCINATTI BENGALS

Player of the Game: DB Dax Hill was all over the field for the Bengals, who’s defense played well against the Patriots, despite the offense not doing it’s part. Hill recorded 1 pass defense, 1 sack, 1 TFL, and 6 solo tackles on the day. If he plays like that all year, a big question mark for the Bengal’s defense will be answered.

17. SEATTLE SEAHAWKS

Player of the Game: RB Kenneth Walker III looked extremely explosive to start out the season. The Seahawks will rely on him to bring balance to an offense that is primed for a big year with all these weapons.

18. JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS

Player of the Game: EDGE Travon Walker recorded 2 sacks and a TFL against the Dolphins, and while he wasn’t necessarily dominant, his production is signature of a player trending up.

19. NEW ORLEANS SAINTS

Player of the Game: CB Alontae Taylor picked up an astounding 3 sacks from the corner position and led the team in total tackles. He’ll be a liability in coverage at times, but his prowess at the line of scrimmage is a major weapon for the Saints defense.

20. CLEVELAND BROWNS

Player of the Game: CB Denzel Ward played his butt off against the Cowboys despite the loss, keeping Dak Prescott and the offense in check for much of the 2nd half. If the offense can figure things out, I think this defense will be fine.

21. MINNESOTA VIKINGS

Player of the Game: QB Sam Darnold was exceptional in his first game as a Minnesota Viking. He was composed and accurate at all levels of the field and played mistake free football, which has always been his downfall.

22. CHICAGO BEARS

Player of the Game: The whole special teams basically won this game for Chicago, scoring 2 TDs, including a blocked punt and a punt return for scores. They bailed out a poor performance from QB Caleb Williams to give the Bears a week 1 victory.

23. ARIZONA CARDINALS

Player of the Game: QB Kyler Murray was up and down, but he looked healthy and really impacted the game as a runner and passer to get an early jump on the Bills before getting bottled up in the second half.

24. ATLANTA FALCON

Player of the Game: RB Bijan Robinson is just an elite athlete with the ball in his hands, and if it weren’t for a swarming Steelers defense, he may have single-handedly turned the tide for Atlanta, nearly breaking off big gains on multiple occasions.

25. LOS ANGELES CHARGERS

Player of the Game: RB JK Dobbins was explosive and looked healthy for LAC to the tune of 135 yards and a TD on only 10 carries. That breakaway ability has evaded Dobbins for the last 3 seasons due to injury, but he appears to finally be all the way back.

26. NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS

Player of the Game: DE Keion White had 2.5 sacks and a forced Joe Burrow to get rid of the football a lot quicker than he wanted to throughout the Patriot’s surprise week 1 upset of Cincy.

27. TENNESSEE TITANS

Player of the Game: DE Harold Landry registered a sack and a TFL for the Titans, on what turned out to be a tough day for the Titans offense and special teams units. Landry is still a very impactful defender and he showed that in Week 1, keeping the talented Caleb Williams on his heals.

28. LAS VEGAS RAIDERS

Player of the Game: DE Maxx Crosby is an absolute menace. It only resulted in a single sack in this outing against the Chargers, but his tenacity is next to none coming off the edge.

29. DENVER BRONCOS

Player of the Game: LB Jonathan Cooper registered 2 sacks and 2 TFLs for the Broncos, although it wasn’t enough to win the game against the Seahawks, Cooper made life tough for Geno Smith all afternoon.

30. WASHINGTON COMMANDERS

Player of the Game: QB Jayden Daniels was electric as a runner, scoring 2 TDs on the ground, but struggled as a passer, using mostly dump offs and the screen game to move the offense. Still, the tantalizing talent is there, even though the Commanders’ roster is a bit of a mess.

31. NEW YORK GIANTS

Player of the Game: WR Malik Nabers showed some of that explosiveness that made him a top 6 pick in this year’s draft. He needs Daniel Jones to play more consistently if he really wants to break out though as a Rookie.

32. CAROLINA PANTHERS

Player of the Game: Not a lot of bright spots for the Panthers, especially when Derrick Brown went down, but LB Eku Leota rushed the passer well adding a sack and a TFL to give Carolina something to build on defensively.
