New Study Shows Benefits of Dome Stadium for the Browns
In the late morning hours of December 5th ,2024, the Cleveland Browns released an economic study that they commissioned regarding the new dome stadium project. The study was conducted by the real estate consulting company RCLCO. It showcased the economic benefits of the proposed dome stadium in Brookpark Ohio. The study shows the benefit to the northeast Ohio region and to the city of Cleveland as well.
The RCLCO findings explained the economic impact will not be for just the indoor football facility. But for the entire complex surrounding it too. They project 5,400 year-round jobs would be created and they broke it down per complex. 870 of those jobs would be at the stadium itself, 2,520 jobs would be for the mixed-use surrounding district, another 1,980 jobs would be serving visitors at the surrounding businesses, and an additional 2,540 would be indirect induced jobs across Cuyahoga County related to the complex. The study estimated that 1 million visitors per year would visit the new dome stadium.
The RCLCO study states that over 40% of the people that went to non-football events at Huntington Bank Field in 2024 were from outside the state of Ohio. These events were WWE Summer Slam, The Rolling Stones, and Rod Stewart with Billy Joel concerts. The dome stadium would bring an estimated 65-75% out market visitors to the events being held there. With that estimation of visitors comes the estimation of revenue to the region.
The study that the Browns themselves commissioned said that the estimated revenue to the region would be 1 billion dollars a year. $200 million of that would be generated off site of the dome stadium. It was also stated in the study that location of the current Huntington Bank Field would have an economic development opportunity. The opportunity would be for that land to be developed into a new revenue source for Cleveland. Instead of having an outdoor football only stadium sitting empty 350 days a year.
I have provided a link for the study from the Cleveland Browns website. This is another move in the public relations battle between the Browns and the city of Cleveland. Who will win this battle doesn’t matter. What matters is the citizens of northeast Ohio winning and they would win big with the dome.
