Marquise “Hollywood” Brown: Ready to Ignite the Chiefs Offense

The Kansas City Chiefs utilize their speedy receivers like no other and now quarterback Patrick Mahomes has yet another weapon at his disposal with the addition of Marquise “Hollywood” Brown.

Brown, a former first round draft selection by the Baltimore Ravens in 2019, has a solid track record in his short NFL career. He has caught 313 receptions for 3,644 yards and 28 touchdowns, all while being on two different teams with a multitude of quarterbacks. The Chiefs acquiring Brown is yet another example of the rich get richer and his playmaking ability and now an actual long term answer at the quarterback position, will propel him to new heights.

While Brown has only ever had one season where he has gone over 1,000 yards (2021), there is little doubt that he doesn’t earn it in this pass friendly Chiefs offense. Brown has history on his side and his role will be similar to how Andy Reid and his offensive staff utilized Tyreek Hill and Mecole Hardman Jr.

Hardman Jr. was traded to the New York Jets and caught only one reception before returning back to the Chiefs just in time for a playoff push. It was then that he paved his way and made a difference in Super Bowl LVIII, catching the game-winning touchdown in overtime. His rags to riches moment is a testament to the coaching staff and quarterback play and “Hollywood” Brown’s arrival will ignite the team’s offense in 2024.

The great news about being around a three time Super Bowl MVP and winner in Mahomes is that he demands excellence on and off the field from his teammates. Brown signed his contract with the Chiefs and immediately began working out with Mahomes.

It is very great to see the chemistry between quarterback and receiver start to unfold this early in the offseason. This will carry onto the football field where both of these athletes will make their mark this season.

As for the contract details, Brown signed a one-year deal worth $7 million. However, he has multiple incentives that can add another $4 million in his pocket.

Incentives:

  • 5 TDs: $500k
  • 6 TDs: $250k
  • 7 TDs: $250k

  • 500 Receiving Yards: $500k
  • 625 Receiving Yards: $125k
  • 750 Receiving Yards: $125k
  • 1,000 Receiving Yards: $750k

  • 45% playtime: $500k
  • 52.5% playtime: $125k
  • 60% playtime: $125k
  • 75% playtime: $750k

This is an extremely friendly contract for Brown, who is looking to improve upon his worst season statistically in his short career. Last season he caught 51 receptions for 574 yards and 4 touchdowns, which would have put him at his base salary of $7 million and then an additional $500k for earning 500 yards, if he was under the same contract that the Chiefs gave him.

Having Coach Reid and Mahomes leading the way along with being a part of a dynasty is very infectious and will help Brown get back on the right track this upcoming season. He will ignite the offense with his speed and route running ability and the incentives contract he signed was the right choice to motivate him and put his best foot forward.
