Josh Jacobs And Xavier McKinney Reunite In Green Bay

Old friends have found their way to Green Bay at the same time. All-Pro running back Josh Jacobs and ascending safety Xavier McKinney were two of Green Bay’s big free agency signings this offseason. Jacobs inked a four-year $48 million deal. McKinney signed a four-year $68 million deal. So, it is fair to say that these two friends will be playing in Green Bay for the foreseeable future.

The two first met while playing for Nick Saban at the University of Alabama. They were teammates from 2017 to 2018. With their help, the Tide would go on to become national champions in 2017. Jacobs was one of the team’s key offensive contributors and McKinney was a First-Team All-SEC performer. Of course, Jacobs would go on to get drafted by the Las Vegas Raiders in the first round in 2019. McKinney would go on to be selected in the second round by the New York Giants in the 2020 NFL Draft.

After winning a championship at the college level, the two now have their eyes set on winning a title in Titletown.

Josh Jacobs is now the bell cow running back after the release of fan-favorite running back Aaron Jones and should have a fantastic first season playing with Jordan Love. He, A.J. Dillon, and a possible rookie running back could prove to be the best trio in in the league at their position.

Xavier McKinney is just 24 years of age and coming off of a career year in New York. Green Bay needed to sign a safety after they lost the likes of Darnell Savage, Jonathan Owens, and presumably Rudy Ford in free agency. Getting a young, yet experienced safety coming off of a career year is a dream scenario for the Packers.

Bringing these two friends and former champions should only yield positive results for Green Bay in 2024 and beyond.
