Is Jameis Winston the Browns Bridge QB?
On Tuesday, the afternoon after the Monday Night loss to Denver, Cleveland Browns Daily host Nathan Zegura made an interesting statement on the Cleveland Browns Daily Radio Show. He said that the Browns know which direction that they can’t go at quarterback in 2025. He was obviously talking about Deshaun Watson and that the team is most likely going to move on from him. Zegura even used the term “Spam Sandwich” when describing Watson’s play. But the team is handcuffed with two years remaining on his guaranteed contract. For Zegura to say this publicly as an employee of the Cleveland Browns says a lot of which direction the team plans to take in their future. But which direction will they go?
On Monday Night Football in Denver Colorado, Browns quarterback Jameis Winston set a team record with 497 yards passing and 4 touchdowns. But he also threw 3 interceptions and two of them were returned for touchdowns. And that cost the Browns the game. Since he took over the starting quarterback role for the Browns, he has sparked the Browns offense with excitement and production. As the starting quarterback he defeated division rivals Baltimore and Pittsburgh. Cleveland Browns fans are happy to see the production, but they wish the interceptions would be minimalized. With Jameis Winston you must take the good with the bad. But is he a long-term answer at quarterback?
Winston is already 30 years old and is more of a short-term answer at quarterback for the Browns. He is the ideal veteran bridge quarterback for the Cleveland Browns organization. The Browns can decide to draft a quarterback in either the 2025 or the 2026 NFL Draft. With Winston at the helm there is no panic or rush to find their future franchise QB. I think that Browns are now at the point that they want the Browns to get the quarterback right and not right now. And Jameis Winston is the right answer for now.
