How RB D ’Onta Foreman stayed with the Browns
On August 28th ,2024, the Cleveland Browns had to finalize their 53-man roster. In a surprise move running back D ‘Onta Foreman had his contract terminated and the Browns kept 4 quarterbacks on their roster. Deshaun Watson, Jameis Winston, Dorian Thomson-Robinson, and Ty Huntley made the Cleveland Browns 53-man roster. And the only running backs on the roster were Jerome Ford and Pierre Strong. Nick Chubb was placed on the reserve / PUP list. The question Browns fans asked was why did they do this?
Foreman is a veteran NFL player, which means that he will not be placed on waivers when his contract is terminated. He could choose to sign with another team if he wanted to. But he expressed his desire to stay with the Cleveland Browns. While Foreman was a free agent for all intents and purposes, Browns GM Andrew Berry was trying to trade quarterback Ty Huntley. However, Berry was not successful on getting a deal for Huntley.
On August 29th,2024, the Cleveland Browns resigned running back D ‘Onta Foreman and released quarterback Ty Huntley. A trade was not able to be made for the quarterback and he was subsequently released. While Berry was trying to trade Huntley, Foreman patiently waited to be resigned by the Browns. Foreman has an important role for the 2024 Cleveland Browns offense.
After the departure of running back Kareem Hunt and the injury to Nick Chubb, the Cleveland Browns had a need at running back. Jerome Ford did a good job of filling in for the injured Chubb. But the team needed a complimentary back to his skillset. Last spring the Browns signed running back D ‘Onta Foreman as a free agent. He will replace Kareem Hunt on the short yardage and goal line situations. Foreman will also be expected to be a productive running back until Nick Chubb returns. He is happy to be with the Cleveland Browns and Cleveland Browns fans are happy to have him.
