How Ohio State Can still win the National Championship

Last Saturday night in Eugene Oregon the 2nd ranked Ohio State Buckeyes fell to the 3rd ranked Oregon Ducks in a thriller 32-31.  It was disappointing for Buckeyes fans to endure the loss and I have seen on social media the lamentation of the officiating. But none the less the score is the score. And Ohio State is now ranked 4th in the country. The Buckeyes have a bye this upcoming weekend and can regroup to face the Nebraska Cornhuskers on October 26th,2024, at noon in Columbus Ohio. The one-point loss to Oregon is not at all the end of Ohio States National Championship hopes.

After Ohio State plays unranked Nebraska at home, the following Saturday they travel to Happy Valley Pennsylvania and take on the 3rd ranked Penn State Nittany Lions. There is the opportunity to make up for the loss to Oregon. It is more than likely that the Penn State versus Ohio State game on November 2nd ,2024, will be a Saturday night game of the week. The kickoff time has not been determined yet. It should be another great game to watch if you are a fan of college football. And another thing to look forward to for college football fans is the College Football Playoff tournament.

On the weekend of December 20th-21st ,2024, the 12 team College Football Playoff will make its debut. That means that it is possible that a 12th ranked team could win the College Football National Championship. So, Ohio State being ranked 4th at the end of October is a setback but not a death sentence. In 2014 the Ohio State Buckeyes got into the College Football Playoff as a 4th ranked team and won the National Title with Cardale Jones at quarterback. He was their third string quarterback. That goes to show once you get into the playoffs, anything can happen.
