From Cutlets to TDs, The Rise of Giants QB Tommy DeVito
If you haven’t been living under a rock, you will know the name Tommy DeVito. If not, then this article will explain the mysterious rookie who has taken the NFL by storm.
I’d admit, when I watched the new quarterback for the New York Giants, I thought he was not going to pan out. But then, I figured, how much worse can he actually be with a team that employs Daniel Jones as what they believe is their “franchise” quarterback? Well, over the last few weeks, DeVito’s play has improved significantly and he has provided a spark for the Giants.
After sitting at 2-8 on the season, the Giants have since won three games in a row and are sitting at 5-8 after their most recent 24-22 victory over the Green Bay Packers Monday night.
HOW IT ALL STARTED:
Tommy DeVito, who rose from undrafted status to NFL stardom, has captivated fans with his Italian heritage and incredible talent as a third-string quarterback turned starter. His unique journey has been captured on social media and has prompted him to receive the nickname Tommy ‘Cutlets’.
In November, he mentioned how he is currently living at home with his parents and still has his mother make his bed, do his laundry, and prepare his daily chicken cutlet meals.

This is the exact post from ESPN’s Adam Schefter that started the entire movement. Being 25-years-old and living with your parents while you make over $40k a week through your game checks is something that is rather interesting.
He lives roughly 12-minutes from the stadium, gets homecooked meals after football practice, and does not have to worry about making his bed or doing laundry. I would sign up for this opportunity to save some money each month; so, I don’t agree with the shade that has been thrown around regarding this topic. If anything, we should praise his parents for the unconditional love they show him and the support he receives.

When I saw DeVito’s agent for the first time on social media, I thought it was a funny joke. His agent, Sean Stellato, is in fact a real person and someone who fits the whole Italian theme to a tee. This posting, from Dov Kleiman, once again adds to an already legendary story.

DeVito won the NFC Offensive Player of the Week after his performance on Monday against the Packers. He went 17 for 21 for 158 yards and one touchdown. While this may not seem like the most impressive stat line, the Giants were underdogs in the game and the Packers were riding an undefeated December campaign of 16 straight wins.
Cutlets got it done when it mattered most, orchestrating a game-winning field goal as time expired in the 24-22 victory.

The last time that we’ve seen something this electric was when Tebow Mania was in full effect in 2011.
While Tebow took the Broncos to the playoffs, beating the Pittsburgh Steelers on a slant to Demaryius Thomas in overtime, DeVito’s playoff chances are very slim but anything is possible with the red hot Giants and their new signal caller at the helm.
THE FACTS:
Tommy DeVito now has a higher passer rating (95.3) on the season than Josh Allen, Patrick Mahomes, and Jalen Hurts.
A better completion percentage (65.3%) than Justin Herbert, CJ Stroud, and Matthew Stafford.

Having a higher passer rating than three of the top quarterbacks in the National Football League is a feat that is worth mentioning. Not only that, throwing more touchdowns than three former first round draft picks, one of them being the first overall selection in Kyler Murray, while you are an undrafted rookie who has only played in the last five games, is rather impressive.
Tommy ‘Cutlets’ DeVito’s story is far from being over. His recent quarterback play has given the Giants some life toward the end of their season.
