Could Dan Orlovsky Become a Packers Coach?

Prior to last season, ESPN NFL analyst Dan Orlovsky hopped on ESPN Wisconsin’s Wilde and Tausch and chatted about his conversation with Packers Head Coach Matt LaFleur about possibly coaching in Green Bay:

“I’ve had conversations with Matt about it, of going out there. There’s been conversations this offseason. It’ll always be something that I’ve been interested in. Right now, I love being at ESPN. I love being able to get to do what I do and I’m super thankful for that.”

Orlovsky, a former 12-year NFL quarterback, spent time with the Lions, Texans, Colts, Buccaneers, and Rams in between 2005 and 2017. He has proven time and time again that he is one of the best NFL minds in sports media while working for ESPN. Bringing in Orlovsky one of these years would be a huge get for Matt LaFleur. Here is why:

He and LaFleur Have Previous Experience Together

Matt LaFleur and Dan Orlovsky have crossed paths twice before. In 2009, they were both in Houston. LaFleur was an offensive assistant with the Texans while Orlovsky was a backup quarterback. They later met again in the Summer of 2017. LaFleur was the Rams’ co-offensive coordinator and Orlovsky was at his last stop in the NFL as he was trying to make the final roster as a backup.

Judging by their conversations and previous stops together, the two have a strong relationship. Adding Orlovsky to the coaching staff in Green Bay would be an awesome move considering the football IQ that both have.

What Role Would Orlovsky Have?

With longtime assistant coach Tom Clements possibly moving on after 2024, there could be a potential opening on the offensive staff. Bringing in a younger mind that has seen a lot could be huge for the rest of the offense. Also, keep in mind that Orlovsky has been around a lot of quality quarterback play. He was teammates with the likes of Peyton Manning, Matthew Stafford, and Matt Schaub. Maybe the role of QBs coach could be his in the future. Coaching quarterbacks in Green Bay doesn’t sound too shabby at all.
