NFL Teams Are Reportedly Interested In D.J. Burns; Could The Packers Be One?

As if his rise to fame couldn’t be any more wild, North Carolina State star basketball player D.J. Burns Jr. is getting hype in multiple sports now. After helping guide the Wolfpack to their first Final Four appearance since 1983, the All-Conference player is getting real NFL interest. According to Good Morning Football‘s Peter Schrager, Burns would get some real heat and a huge turnout if he participated in a Pro Day after the basketball season. The 6-9 big man could be a real weapon at offensive tackle.

A team like the Packers needs some help at the tackle position, especially after losing All-Pro left tackle David Bakhtiari and veteran Yosh Nijman this offseason. Green Bay will be looking to add more help in the trenches when the NFL Draft rolls around later this month. Why not look into adding a talented athlete like Burns?

Elite Footwork And Size

To be one of the best centers in America, a player like Burns needs great footwork and has to play big. That is exactly what he has brought en route to averaging 18.3 points, 5 rebounds, and 3.5 assist over N.C. State’s four games in the NCAA Tournament. He is listed at 6-9 and weighs 275 pounds. More likely than not, Burns is closer to 6-8 or even 6-7 and weighs near 300 pounds. If he were to put on just a little bit more muscle, look out. His abilities that he has flashed this month against some of the league’s best teams has been nothing short of spectacular.

Could He Make It In Green Bay?

No, he hasn’t played football since middle school. But, it is fair to point out that a man by the name of Antonio Gates didn’t play football in college. With Burns’s size and athleticism, imagine him locking up some of the league’s best pass-rushers? Again, he would need to work on some of his skills and prove that he could play at a high level in the NFL.

But, if a situation did arise where he has proven that he can play offensive line well enough, no team churns out better offensive lines than the Packers. If he found his way to Green Bay, he would be molded into a solid role player before becoming a starter. When someone with his skillset is available, teams will have their eyes open. Not only do the Packers churn out great offensive lines, but they also help develop raw prospects into great players. With Burns’s athleticism, he could undoubtedly make it in Green Bay.
