College Football Players to Watch: TreVeyon Henderson, Ohio State’s Premier Back

We are a little over a month away from the college football season starting and what better way than to evaluate athletes who are on the rise. This segment will feature Ohio State’s premier running back TreVeyon Henderson.

Henderson enters his fourth season at Ohio State and in each of his last three seasons, he has been a dominant force in the ground attack along with being a hard-working athlete. Henderson will lead the team’s running back room in 2024 and has been receiving numerous accolades this offseason such as being named to Pro Football Focus (PFF) and their Top 10 Returning Running Backs for the 2024 Season list.

Henderson was ranked sixth on the list and PFF writer Max Chadwick had this to say about the 21-year-old Finance major athlete:

Between Judkins and Henderson, Ohio State has far and away the best backfield in college football next season. After an injury-plagued sophomore season, Henderson began to look more like himself as a junior. His 90.0 PFF grade in 2023 was seventh among Power Five running backs. Henderson’s 5.9 yards per attempt were second among Big Ten running backs in 2023.

He still missed three games due to injury as a junior, so the addition of Judkins should hopefully keep Henderson fresh in his senior year as the Buckeyes use more of a committee backfield.

Being a young player in college football and already a top-10 running back in the entire Nation, is a strong accomplishment. Henderson will look to not only be a leader within his running backs room, but also on the entire Ohio State Football team as well.

Head coach Ryan Day has talked about Henderson and his leadership numerous times this offseason. He most recently said, “I think TreVeyon’s leadership so far this year as he’s transitioned into his fourth year has been tremendous, The way that he’s gone about his work, the way that he’s holding guys accountable, he’s got a different look in his eye, and I think that’s important.”

Having Day’s seal of approval is a step in the right direction for Henderson as he looks to take the next step in his career.

Henderson’s Collegiate Statistics:

2021: 183 Carries for 1,248 Rushing Yards, 15 TDs | 27 Receptions for 312 Yards, 4 TDs

2022: 107 Carries for 571 Rushing Yards, 6 TDs | 4 Receptions for 28 Yards, 1 TD

2023: 156 Carries for 926 Rushing Yards, 11 TDs | 19 Receptions for 229 Yards, 0 TDs

2024: TBD

While Henderson is poised for a breakout campaign this season, an even more important attribute that NFL teams will be looking for in the 2025 Draft is his ability to be a strong leader.

This upcoming season will be a critical one not only for his statistics but also how he conducts himself on and off the field. If the past is any indication of the future, Henderson will be a top selection come next year for a run-hungry NFL franchise.
