College Football Players to Watch: Carson Beck, Georgia’s Rising Star

We are a little over a month away from the college football season starting and what better way than to evaluate athletes who are on the rise. This segment will feature University of Georgia and their rising star quarterback Carson Beck.

Prior to the 2023 college football season, Georgia’s quarterback situation was filled with question marks. After the coaching staff announced that Carson Beck would be named the starter prior to week one, the rest of the chips fell in place.

Although Beck was a redshirt freshman in 2020, and only played in a handful of games in 2021 and 2022, it seemed as if the 6-foot-4 inch quarterback had what it took to become a full-time starter.

Beck did not look back after taking over for a Georgia football team that many wrote off early. The consensus was that the team had lost too many athletes to the NFL Draft and therefore, could not win a Championship this year. All this coupled with the fact that there is a massive question mark surrounding the quarterback position and whether or not Beck was the right man for the job. Early on, the naysayers began to realize that Beck was the real deal and the team remained undefeated until week thirteen against the University of Alabama, in which they lost a heart-breaker 27-24.

The senior Sports Management major, finished his first full season as a starting quarterback with impressive numbers, leading the team to a 13-1 record.

Beck’s Collegiate Statistics:

2020: REDSHIRT

2021: 10 Completions out of 23 for 176 Passing Yards, 2 TDs to 2 INTs, 119.1 Passer Rating

2022: 26 Completions out of 35 for 310 Passing Yards, 4 TDs to 0 INTs, 186.4 Passer Rating

2023: 302 Completions out of 417 for 3,941 Passing Yards, 24 TDs to 6 INTs, 167.9 Passer Rating

2024: TBD

Statically speaking, Beck had a solid first-year as the team’s full-time signal-caller. Many analysts predict Beck to be a top-10 selection in the 2025 NFL Draft and his future looks very promising.

Whether or not the 22-year-old can secure his own College Football National Championship is another story for a later date. Beck has two CFP National Championships from 2021 and 2022, while he was the team’s backup quarterback, but now is the time for him to prove that he can produce and take his team to the promise land as the starter.

If that does not happen, and he still has a statistically strong 2024 season, an NFL team will be extremely lucky to have a smart and talented young quarterback, one who has the attributes to help a struggling NFL franchise turn around.
