College Football Players 2024 Follow-Up: Xavier Restrepo, Miami Hurricanes’ Slot WR
As the regular season of college football comes to a close and the focus shifts towards the championship games, it’s time to spotlight some of the game’s most talented athletes. This segment will focus on Miami Hurricanes’ slot wide receiver Xavier Restrepo, who enjoyed a record-breaking 2024 campaign.
Back in July, we launched a segment titled: “College Football Players to Watch”, which highlighted several collegiate athletes in their quest for greatness. Many of the athletes had outstanding years, while some battled injuries and other factors that ultimately made the year somewhat forgettable. For Miami’s Xavier Restrepo, this past season was one for the ages. Not only did the 22-year-old senior wide receiver increase his statistical output, but he also broke several records along the way.
Restrepo finished the season hauling in 69 receptions for 1,127 yards and 11 touchdowns, increasing his 2023 total where he finished with more receptions (85), fewer yards (1,092), and even fewer touchdowns (6). The biggest improvement was his yards per average of 16.3 compared to 12.8 the season prior.
Not only did Restrepo’s on-field production increase, but he also was awarded several record-breaking achievements, some that will solidify his name in the history books for the rest of eternity.
Restrepo’s Records Captured in 2024:
- All-time leader in both career receptions and receiving yards in Miami Hurricane history
- Surpassed Mike Harley’s record of 182 receptions
- Surpassed Santana Moss’s record of 2,546 receiving yards
- Accumulated 200 career receptions and 2,844 receiving yards, both all-time highs for the Hurricanes
- 11 Receiving TDs tied him for 2nd Place, matching Michael Irvin’s 1986 season
The addition of quarterback Cam Ward certainly helped the young receiver with his production; however, it should not go unnoticed that he was producing even with a slew of different signal-callers at the helm throughout his collegiate journey in Miami.
Restrepo is certainly the type of athlete who will benefit an NFL team in the near future, one who isn’t afraid to block — and one who certainly isn’t afraid to give it everything that he has. That is all that one can ask for, and an NFL program certainly will be lucky to have him on their roster this year.
