Last Sunday September 22 ,2024, prior to the Cleveland Browns New York Giants game at 1pm at Huntington Bank Field, the Cleveland Browns honored two legends in their organization. Both Jimmy Donovan and Phil Dawson were inducted into the Cleveland Browns 2024 Class of Legends  The ceremony took place on the field prior to kickoff. Jimmy Donovan’s daughter Meghan was present to represent the Donovan family. Phil Dawson was there with his family. Both men have greatly contributed to the Cleveland Browns organization.

Phil Dawson was a place kicker for the expansion era Cleveland Browns. He was a lone bright spot in that era for the Cleveland Browns. He joined the team in 1999 their first year back in the NFL as a free agent. He had prior stints with the Raiders and Patriots before becoming a Cleveland Brown. He was a special team’s mainstay for 14 seasons with the team. He was great teammate and is a man of high character.

Jimmy Donovan joined the Cleveland Browns radio broadcast booth in 1999 when the expansion Cleveland Browns returned to the NFL. His ability to describe the game and paint the picture with his words was unmatched. Jimmy was also a longtime sports anchor in Cleveland at WKYC Channel 3. He is a pillar of the Cleveland sports community. And he is well deserving of this honor.

Even though the game itself last Sunday did not go the way the Cleveland Browns fans have hoped. The ceremony that day meant a lot more to the Cleveland Browns fans in attendance than football. Both men have given many Cleveland Browns fans memories of moments that they will never forget.  It is only right that they be honored by the Cleveland Browns organization and their fans.
