Cleveland Browns bring back C Nick Harris

Late Sunday afternoon on August 11th, the news broke that the Cleveland Browns traded with the Seattle Seahawks to reacquire their former Center Nick Harris. This trade was made necessary after the season ending broken ankle injury to Browns backup center Luke Wypler. The details of the trade are interesting and resemble the shrewdness of Browns General Manager Andrew Berry.

The Cleveland Browns sent the Seattle Seahawks a 2026 6th round draft pick and in return Seattle sends Cleveland Center Nick Harris and a 2026 7th round pick. So, after a hole was made in the roster due to an injury, Andrew Berry essentially fills that hole with a late round pick two years from today. This trade wasn’t made blind either. This is because Nick Harris has played for the Browns.

Nick Harris was drafted by the Cleveland Browns in the 5th round of the 2020 NFL Draft. He was the 160th overall pick and was a developmental prospect. The 6’1” 300-pound offensive lineman did have some adversity in his career. Early in the first preseason game of 2022, Harris suffered a season ending knee injury and C Ethan Pocic took the starting role at center.  Pocic has stayed the starter ever since that happened. Harris has worked his way back into the Browns offense and last season he was utilized as a blocking fullback in Kevin Stefanski’s offense. I am not sure if he will be used in the same manner for Ken Dorsey’s offense?

The expectations are high for the 2024 Cleveland Browns. Roster depth and overall health will be a major factor in the success of the Browns season. Andrew Berry and the Cleveland Browns understand that. And that is the reason this trade happened so quickly after Wypler’s injury. Speaking for Cleveland Browns fans in northeast Ohio and around world. I would like to say welcome back Nick!
