Cleveland Browns at Philadelphia Eagles Week 6 Preview

On Sunday October 13th,2024, at 1pm eastern time, the Cleveland Browns travel to the city of brotherly love to take on the Philadelphia Eagles. The Cleveland Browns have struggled this season, this is especially on offense. The Philadelphia Eagles are coming off a bye week and have a 2-2 record. The Browns are at 1-4 and are an 8.5-point underdog in this game. With the Cleveland Browns offense struggling there is a growing drumbeat to switch starting quarterbacks. But Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski thought otherwise.

In both the postgame press conference and the Monday zoom call with the media, Cleveland Browns coach Kevin Stefanski said that the offense is not a one-person problem. And he is sticking with Deshaun Watson. He is right about that. When you lead the NFL in quarterback pressures, quarterback sacks, penalties, and dropped passes, your offense will struggle. Another alarming stat is the Cleveland Browns average down and distance to go on 3rd down is 8.95 yards. This is due to failures on 1st and 2nd down. Changing the starting quarterback will not fix the problem. Cleaning up the missed blocking assignments, penalties, and dropped passes will go a lot further than a new starter at quarterback. The defense would benefit from this as well.

It is difficult to play complimentary football when your offense doesn’t compliment the defense. Being able to sustain drives and give your defense a rest benefits your team. It doesn’t help when your offense struggles to run the ball either. When Nick Chubb returns to the starting lineup, it should give a boost to the Browns running game. But he is not expected to return yet to the Browns for this game. The Eagles are good team, and the Browns are playing like a bad team. If the Browns aren’t careful, they could be in a 1-5 hole for the 2024 season. And Browns fans may start talking about the 2025 NFL Draft. At least we have a first-round pick next year.
