Cavs advance to 9-0, beat Pelicans 131-122

On Wednesday the Cleveland Cavaliers traveled to the Big Easy New Orleans Louisiana to play the New Orleans Pelicans at the Smoothie King Center. The Cavaliers are riding an 8-game win streak to start their season. They are 8-0 and are trying to go 9-0. New Orleans has a record of 3-5. Their star player forward Zion Williamson was listed as questionable for the game with a thigh injury. He missed the last two games for the Pelicans, and they lost both of those games.  The Cavaliers injury report includes Dwayne Wade who is out with an illness, Caris LeVert is questionable with his knee injury, and Jaylon Tyson is questionable with a hip injury.  Only Caris LeVert played for the Cavaliers in this game. Zion Williamson did play for the Pelicans too. The next question is are the Cavaliers able to keep up the win streak on the road?

The game started with New Orleans scoring 34 points in the 1st quarter and the Cavaliers scoring 29. During the second quarter the Cavaliers trailed by as much as 12 points. But they did make a run to at the end of the 1st half to tie the score 59-59. The 3rd quarter had the Cavaliers storming out and scoring 40 points while the Pelicans scored 29 points of their own. The 4th quarter continued the Cavaliers momentum with a 32-point quarter to win their 9th game in a row 131-122.

History was made with this win, for the first time in Cavaliers history the team started a season 9-0. Cavaliers head coach Kenny Atkinson is the first new coach in NBA history to start their first season with a team 9-0. Donovan Mitchell led the Cavaliers in scoring with 29 points in 34 minutes. Jarrett Allen had another double-double with 16 points and 14 rebounds in 35 minutes.

On Friday the Golden State Warriors will travel to the Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse to play the 9-0 Cleveland Cavaliers. The Warriors are 7-1 and just defeated the Boston Celtics 118-112. This game will be a must watch for basketball fans and could be a preview to the 2025 NBA Finals.
