Cardinals’ Revamped Receiver Room – No Excuses for Murray

In every NFL season that Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray has played, he has thrown more touchdowns than interceptions. Murray’s NFL career has been a rollercoaster ride for many reasons, the main one would be his inability to stay healthy. Plagued by a season-ending knee injury, the Cardinals offense ranked 26th in the NFL at the beginning of last season, and only averaged 16.8 points per game. After Murray’s arrival back, the offense averaged 22.4 points per game and was ranked 9th in the NFL.

His presence had immediate results, but in 2024 with a new revamped receiver room, there are no more excuses for Murray and this football team to produce.

The Cardinals selected Ohio State wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. with their fourth overall draft pick this year. Harrison Jr. will have a lot of responsibilities as a youthful 21-year-old, and he is expected to dominate and be their best offensive weapon, even though he has yet to play an NFL snap.

A few other receivers that the Cardinals will be relying on are second-year receiver Michael Wilson, veteran receiver Zay Jones, who comes from the Jacksonville Jaguars where he spent two seasons there, and long-time fan favorite Greg Dortch.

List of Offensive Weapons for Murray:

  • Marvin Harrison Jr.
  • James Conner
  • Michael Carter
  • Michael Wilson
  • Zay Jones
  • Greg Dortch
  • Trey McBride
  • Emari Demercado
  • Chris Moore

Statistics Last Season from Playmakers:

  • Marvin Harrison Jr. (College) – 77 Receptions for 1,263 Yards, 14 TDs
  • James Conner – 208 Carries for 1,040 Yards, 7 TDs
  • Michael Carter – 22 Carries for 149 Yards, 0 TDs
  • Zay Jones – 34 Receptions for 321 Yards, 2 TDs
  • Greg Dortch – 22 Receptions for 266 Yards, 2 TDs
  • Trey McBride – 81 Receptions for 825 Yards, 3 TDs
  • Emari Demercado – 58 Carries for 284 Yards, 2 TDs
  • Chris Moore – 22 Receptions for 424 Yards, 0 TDs

Even though these statistics from these players and their performance from a season ago are not extremely promising, Harrison Jr’s arrival will open up the offense to help these other athletes shine. We have witnessed this in Minnesota with Justin Jefferson and also in Cincinnati with Ja’Marr Chase. One stud play-maker will completely impact the entire offense and the production.

Murray being a quarterback heading into the sixth season and looking at the offensive firepower he is surrounded with, there should be no question regarding his level of excitement. Murray has a chance to utilize all of his “new toys” and make the Cardinals a better football team, improving on their 4-13 record.

With continuity at the coaching positions providing key stability, paired with these new athletes, the 2024 Arizona Cardinals have no excuses to perform and even excel beyond expectations.
