Can Nick Chubb be ready to play by Week 1?

Earlier this week at the third week of Cleveland Browns Organized Team Activities, Nick Chubb spoke to the Cleveland Sports Media for the first time since his second knee surgery last November. Chubb’s knee injury occurred in week 2 of the 2023 season at Pittsburgh on Monday Night Football. What Chubb had to say was interesting to say the least.

Nick Chubb spoke of how retiring from football never crossed his mind. He also said that the Cleveland Browns could have released him and could have given up on him. But they didn’t do that, and he was appreciative of the Browns for sticking with him. He even mentioned how this isn’t first time that people have counted him out and they were wrong. He is working hard to get back on field and taking day by day. Even more interesting is the recent speculation on his return to action for the Cleveland Browns.

On X Jack Duffin from the Orange and Brown Report predicted that Cleveland Browns Running Back Nick Chubb will be ready to play by week 1 against the Dallas Cowboys. His reasoning for this is the structure of Nick Chubb’s contract. If Chubb starts the season on the injury PUP list and misses the first four weeks of the season, his contract goes from $12 million dollars to just under $6 million. This is due to the money lost in incentives.

Jack Duffin is the first and only person to make this bold prediction on Nick Chubb. And it does make financial sense for Nick Chubb to be back for week 1 against Dallas. But does it make medical sense? Could his hasty return make his knee worse or beyond repair? As much as I would like for Nick Chubb to return to field for the Cleveland Browns as soon as possible.  And he is superhuman, but we all have to remember that he is indeed human. And every Cleveland Browns fan is hoping and praying for his recovery!
