Caleb Williams Welcomes Punter to Chicago with Confident Text Exchange

With the new offensive firepower, general manager Ryan Poles decided that drafting a punter in the fourth round was a smart move to further strengthen the offense. The Bears selected Iowa punter Tory Taylor with pick number 122 and he has a lot of experience punting the football.

As many already know, the Bears selected quarterback Caleb Williams with the first overall selection in this year’s NFL Draft. Williams will look to provide continuity at the quarterback position, an area that has lacked continuity for an extremely long time. So long that the Bears have yet to have a 4,000 yard passer; Williams’ confidence just oozes out of him and he wants to be that guy to change the culture once and for all.

Fan First Sports Network’s very own Greg Patuto went into detail about the new look Chicago offense in his recent article. Patuto mentioned the high expectations that are now placed upon Williams and the organization which begin and end with the Bears making the playoffs in 2024.

If you didn’t live under a rock you know who Caitlin Clark is, and the excitement she gave to the game of women’s basketball. A fun fact is that Clark scored more points (235) in one month than the entire Iowa Football team scored in one full season (230). To say that Taylor knows how to punt the football is an understatement as he was given plenty of opportunities.

Williams really was fired up for the Taylor selection on his social media account and posted on his Instagram story, “Special Teams. Special Plays. Special Players” which is an ohmage to popular rising Twitch streamer ‘Sketch’.

The most important part about the exchange between Williams and his new punter is not the Sketch quote on Instagram but rather a text between the two athletes.

Williams texted Taylor after he was drafted and said, “Hey, you’re not going to punt too much here.” This text by the new Bears signal-caller has social media in a frenzy with many responses talking about just how cocky Williams is and how he needs to be a little bit “more humble”.

While some consider this response to be “too cocky” from a rookie quarterback who has yet to lace up his cleats in the NFL, I think it is a positive that shows you that he believes in his new football team and is excited to put his best foot forward.

Ultimately, you want your quarterback and hopeful franchise player to be confident about the offensive production. The addition of Taylor provides another important piece to the puzzle – a stronger special teams unit.
