Browns vs. Giants Week 3 Preview

On Sunday September 22 ,2024, at 1pm eastern time the Cleveland Browns will host the New York Giants for the 3rd game of the 2024 season. The New York Giants have an 0-2 record to start the season. They lost last week at Washington D.C.  21-18. The Cleveland Browns sit at 1-1 with a week 2 victory at the Jacksonville Jaguars by a score of 18-13. In the NFL it is always a new week and a new opportunity regardless of a team’s record.

Early in week 3 preparation, the Cleveland Browns are 6.5-point favorites over the New York Giants. I would expect this to change when injury reports are released on Wednesday. The Browns being the obvious favorite in this game is mostly because of the Giants quarterback matchup against the Browns defense at home. Giants quarterback Daniel Jones in two games in 2024 has 364 passing yards, 2 touchdowns, and 2 interceptions. His quarterback rating is 40.1. It appears to be a golden opportunity for the Browns defense to feast at home.

Even though injuries and other factors can linger with any team. When the opportunity arrives to get a win, a team must take it. The Cleveland Browns offense can take this game as a chance to get right. Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson had a much-improved game week 2 versus week 1. But the Browns offense overall has struggled early in the 2024 season. The New York Giants defense was ranked 27th during the 2023 season. And early in the 2024 season they are ranked 19th. And for the Browns offensive line to get healthier would be a benefit in this game.

Both Browns starting offensive tackles started the season injured. Last week OT Jack Conklin and OT Jed Wills practiced on a limited basis. But neither has yet to play in a game this season. This game for the Cleveland Browns on paper should be the first home win in 2024. But games in the NFL are won and lost on the field, not on paper.
