Browns Blown Out by Chargers 27-10
On Sunday in Week 9 the Cleveland Browns hosted the Los Angeles Chargers. The Chargers had a 4-4 record, and the Browns were 2-6. Cleveland just came off an emotional win in the previous week against the Baltimore Ravens. The Chargers had a big win at home against the New Orleans Saints. With the exception of week 8, Cleveland’s offense has struggled. Los Angeles went into the game with NFL’s top ranked defense. That matchup alone did not bode well for the Cleveland Browns chances, and it showed as the game progressed.
The lack of Cleveland Browns offensive production and big plays given up by the defense gave Los Angeles a halftime lead of 20-3. In the first half the Browns had less than 60 yards of total offense and only 3 points. Two touchdowns were scored by the Chargers because of a break down in coverage by the Browns defense. One was for 66 yards. And another was for 28 yards. Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert was 18 for 27, for 282 yards, 2 touchdowns, 0 interceptions, and a quarterback rating of 125.9. Browns quarterback Jameis Winston was 28 for 46 for 235 yards, one touchdown, 3 interceptions, and a quarterback rating of 50.5. The score was bad Chargers 27 Browns 10, and the Browns record is now 2-7. But there were some bright spots for Browns fans.
The Browns defense did record 6 quarterback sacks and 3 of them were from defensive end Myles Garrett. Also, second year Browns receiver Cedric Tillman had a good game 6 receptions for 75 yards and a touchdown. His touchdown late in the game was a spectacular catch.
Up next for the Browns in Week 10 is the bye week, Week 11 they travel to New Orleans to play the Saints. With the chances for the playoffs being slim now, Browns fans need to watch for trade deadline on Tuesday November 5th. The Browns could possibly make some trades and be sellers on these trades. But who are we selling and who is going buy on Tuesday? We will have to wait and see.
