Broncos Rookie Quarterback Bo Nix Excels in Sunday’s Preseason Debut
The Denver Broncos may have finally found their franchise quarterback. While it is way too early to crown rookie Bo Nix as the face of the franchise, the 24-year-old signal-caller took a significant step forward in his first ever NFL action on Sunday.
Nix, selected 12th overall in this year’s NFL draft, led four scoring drives in his preseason debut versus the Indianapolis Colts. The former University of Oregon quarterback is in a battle with fellow teammates Jarrett Stidham and Zach Wilson. Stidham finished 4/7 for 37 yards and an interception in limited playing time, while Wilson finished 10/13 for 117 yards with no touchdowns or turnovers. All three quarterbacks made positive plays for their team and the Broncos won their first preseason matchup 34-30.
Using the most out of his opportunity, Nix was very sharp early and finished 15/21 for 125 yards and a touchdown. He also rushed on three attempts for 17 yards and displayed some agility and speed when on the move.
One of the more impressive things that was seen was just how poised he was while in the pocket. If the pass rush got to him and his offensive line, Nix did not panic but rather utilized his legs while maintaining solid vision down the field. Overall, he had a nice outing in his debut at quarterback.
Former NFL quarterback Robert Griffin III took to social media platform X to discuss Nix and his week one preseason performance.
Bo Nix was the most efficient QB in his draft class because of his ability to process complex schemes with ease and the QUICK RELEASE you see on this TD throw. He showed that going 15/21 for 125 yards with 4 scoring drives in his preseason debut and his creativity too.
Reporter Andrew Mason, who covers the Broncos on Denver Sports Radio 1043, mentioned how “All roads lead to Bo Nix” as the starting quarterback very soon
All roads lead to Bo Nix.
After Sunday, those roads might be leading the Broncos to Bo Nix as the starting quarterback very soon.

There seems to be a different energy level and excitement from the fans and many analysts out there regarding Nix’s performance on Sunday. The Broncos have not been to the playoffs since Peyton Manning’s Super Bowl 50. The drought may be over relatively soon due to Nix and his limited offensive success.
Just remember, even though the preseason is not entirely the real thing, it still is a promising sight that Nix went through his progressions, displayed an ability to get out of trouble with his legs while maintaining his eyes down the field, and was accurate early and often. We will have to wait to see how the second preseason matchup goes as Nix will be the starting quarterback in that contest.
