Philadelphia is called the ‘City of Brotherly Love.’

Not sure why. I worked there for a couple of years, on different buildings around the city, in my other life in construction. What I CAN say is that they are quick with the sarcastic wit and single digit waves. I mean, I can remember my dad telling me a story one time about how the fans of the Philadelphia Eagles threw snowballs at Santa…

AT SANTA of all people!!!

That doesn’t sound too friendly or full of “brotherly love.”

Well, the truth is, it hasn’t been friendly, full of brotherly love, or even sunny in Philadelphia for the Pittsburgh Steelers for a very long time. 59 years to be exact.

1965…

… that’s the last time that the Pittsburgh Steelers have beaten the Philadelphia Eagles, in Philadelphia.

The Eagles also have the 2nd best winning percentage against the Steelers all-time (29-48-3 W/L/T=.619 Pct), behind the Chicago Bears (8-19-1 W/L/T=.696 Pct).

The last time the Steelers played the Eagles in Philadelphia, back in 2022, the Eagles throttled the Steelers, when the Steelers were in the middle of what has come to be known as the ‘Offensive Canadian Winter’.

Kenny Pickett took 6 sacks, had 2 turnovers, and didn’t even throw the Steelers lone TD on the day. No, that belonged to “Chased-himself-out-of-Pittsburgh” Claypool.

This day was the Jalen Hurts/AJ Brown show, as Brown routinely torched the Steelers Secondary all day to the stat line tune of 6 catches for 156 yds and 3 touchdowns.

This was perhaps one of only maybe 3 or 4 games in the last 5 years or so where I can remember the Steelers Defense really getting manhandled and embarrassed like they were that day.

This year’s Steelers team has a load of different and better talent this time around, and not to mention, a QB in Russell Wilson who has had no issues of his own in beating the Eagles, going 5-0 lifetime against them.

It’s going to take more than Wilson to beat these Eagles though, as they have one of the better defenses in the league, just like the Steelers.

The Eagles like to run the ball, a lot, just like the Steelers, and they employed front office guru Andy Weidl for a spell before Weidl came over to help be the ‘Mad Scientist’ to Omar Khan’s ‘Khan Artist’.

Listen, this matchup really needs no hype for it. It’s a pair of cross-state rivals that are playing very good football, and if some luck is had, may end up playing each other again in two months.

As Coach Tomlin said: “It’s a 5 Star matchup…”

Let’s review before we get to the goodies for this week!

Review of Week 14

Corey – This parlay got off to a horrible start first thing in the morning last Sunday vs the Browns, as it was a game-time decision for Coach Tomlin to scratch George Pickens from the game due to a hamstring injury.

It would only get worse from there, as Russell Wilson and Mike Williams missed on a couple opportunities that would have busted the passing game wide open and gotten Wilson the yards.

The Steelers/Browns final score of 27-14 left me a Field Goal short of completing that leg, and there were plenty of opportunities that the FG could have happened, but in the end, this was a disaster of a parlay, just as I was starting to pick consistent winning legs too. Well, let’s see how we can turn this around and get some cash back!

  • Russell Wilson OVER 250 Pass Yards (+135) – MISS
  • Total Points OVER 43.5 (-112) – MISS
  • George Pickens ANYTIME TD Scorer (+105) – VOIDED

Total Parlay Odds: +445

Winning Bet of $10 = $54.50

Jeff – Last week my parlay missed for the Steelers game vs. the Browns, but what else is new? There was a time when I felt like as the season progressed I was getting better at picking my spots, but that has not been the case. My parlay struggles continue…

Here was my parlay from last week:

3 Leg Parlay

  • Jaylen Warren Anytime TD Scorer: (+200) MISS
  • PIT Total Points: 27.5+ (+145) MISS
  • PIT Margin of Victory 7-12 points (+390) HIT

Another parlay ruined, this one by the Pittsburgh Steelers offense choosing to kneel out the ball instead of kicking a field goal to give the over vs. the Browns defense. Also, my hunch Jaylen Warren would hit pay dirt didn’t come to fruition. We took some chances last week, and the roll of the dice didn’t play out.

Dave – First off, one of these other two jabroni’s saved a different copy over top all my work, so I didn’t get to brag on hitting another parlay as last week still had all my old stuff in it. So here was my winner from 2 weeks ago against Cincinnati:

  • Jaylen Warren Receiving yards: 25+ (+170) HIT
  • PIT points scored: OVER 23.5 (+114) HIT
  • Najee Harris Rushing yards O/U: OVER 61.5 (-120) HIT

Total Odds: +675

Winning Bet of $10 = $77.50

As for last week, the bet I placed that wasn’t published was not a winner as I cam up short on Russell Wilson passing yards (I knew I should have gone with passing touchdowns instead):

  • Jaylen Warren Receiving yards: 25+ (+150) HIT
  • PIT points scored: OVER 26.5 (+100) HIT
  • Russell Wilson Passing Yards: 250+ (+140) MISS

I barely squeaked by on Warren’s receiving yards (25) and the over point total (27). But Wilson’s passing yards (158) were nowhere close.

This Week’s Picks

Corey – This game is all about best on best, and that happens to match up in all three phases of the game with these two teams. Both sport a defense in the Top 10 in the League, and both love to establish a physical presence up front on offense.

This game will come down to field position, time of possession, turnovers, and which defense is able to hold up at the point of attack and not allow the other Running Back to gouge them for big plays. Jeff Hartman threw out an X post the other day outlining the entire League’s scoring trends based on Quarters, and the Eagles are notoriously slow out of the gate, BUT, they also have scored a TON of points in the 2nd half of games.

Likewise, the Steelers have found themselves starting slow in most games, with the notable exception of the Bengals game, and then firing off in the 3rd Quarter. I look for this trend to continue with two very solid defenses trading body blows all afternoon to see who can take the punishment.

  • TOTAL POINTS UNDER (1st HALF) 21.5 pts (-110)
  • TOTAL POINTS OVER (2nd HALF) 20.5 pts (-115)
  • O/U 1.5 CHRIS BOSWELL FIELD GOALS (-120)

TOTAL ODDS: +550

Winning Bet of $10 = $65.00

Jeff – This week’s parlay…it’s another go-big-or-go-home parlay for me. Since I can’t even complete a conservative parlay, I might as well do my best to try and get these parlays to work in a big way. As you can see below, these are favorable odds with this 3-leg parlay and could pay out in a big way. I think Russ will have to throw the ball a good bit in this game, and I think Mike Williams and Jaylen Warren getting the necessary receiving yards could be a big hit.

3 Leg Parlay

  • Russell Wilson Passing Yards: 225+ (180)
  • Mike Williams Yards: 40+ (+330)
  • Jaylen Warren Receiving Yards: 25+ (+125)

Total Odds: +1300

$10 bet = $140.00

Dave – Like two weeks ago, I actually don’t like placing a parlay on this game. I don’t think it’s the right setup. But if I have to do one, I’m making it be a big payout. It’s also about the Eagles struggling more than the Steelers to start a game.

  • PIT moneyline for the 1st Quarter (+154)
  • PIT points scored: OVER 19.5 (+114)
  • The lowest scoring Quarter: 1st Quarter (+215)

Total Odds: +1000

Winning Bet of $10 = $110.00
