Baltimore Ravens adding veteran RB Melvin Gordon
There are a handful of NFL teams who are already in training camp, but for the vast majority they are still putting the final touches of their offseason before the team gets back to the grind of camp. For the Baltimore Ravens, the final touches includes adding a running back to their roster.
Not just any running back, but Melvin Gordon.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Ravens one-year deal could be worth up to $3.1 million dollars, pending a physical.
A RB deal: Veteran free-agent Melvin Gordon reached agreement today on a one-year deal worth up to $3.1 million with the Baltimore Ravens, per league source.

Before fans of the NFL, or teams who are rivals with the Ravens, throw their arms in the air regarding the overall dollar amount of the contract, know it is likely riddled with incentives. There is a reason Schefter’s tweet states “up to” the $3.1 million mark.
Will Gordon even have the opportunity to hit those incentives? Considering the depth chart on the Ravens’ roster, it seems like an uphill battle. Gordon would have to beat out the likes of J.K. Dobbins, Justice Hill and Gus Edwards to be in the top two of running backs on the roster. Could Gordon be the RB3 on the team? It’s possible, but the team would likely go with a player who also provides special teams assistance, something Gordon wouldn’t be doing at this stage of his career.
The Ravens have been making plenty of veteran moves this offseason, mainly with their acquisition of Odell Beckham Jr. It seems as though the Ravens are preparing to try and make a run in 2023, but it has yet to be seen if Gordon will even be a part of that equation when the regular season rolls around.
