Around the NFC West: Week 16
Brock Purdy’s MVP campaign came crashing down on Monday night when he threw four interceptions in the San Francisco 49ers’ 33-19 loss to the Baltimore Ravens. It was not all bad for the guys on the San Francisco offense. Christian McCaffrey had 131 total yards and a touchdown. George Kittle and Brandon Aiyuk both had over 100 yards receiving. The loss drops San Francisco to 11-4 and in a tie for the number one seed in the NFC with the Philadelphia Eagles. The 49ers play the Washington Commanders on Sunday.
The Los Angeles Rams offense is all the way back. They hung 30 on the New Orleans Saints en route to a 30-22 win. Matthew Stafford threw for 328 yards and two touchdowns. Kyren Williams rushed for 104 yards and a touchdown. Puka Nacua had nine catches for 164 yards and a touchdown. Sean McVay is pushing all of the right buttons with a group that had a lot of unknowns at the beginning of the season. The win gets the Rams to 8-7 and keeps them squarely in the mix for a Wild Card spot in the NFC. They travel to New York to take on the Giants in week 17.
Geno Smith returned for the Seattle Seahawks after missing two games and led his team to a 20-17 win over the Tennessee Titans. He threw for 227 yards including a five-yard touchdown to Colby Parkinson with 57 seconds left on the clock. It was Smith’s second touchdown pass of the day. The Seahawks defense would sack Ryan Tannehill twice on the ensuing drive to secure the win. Seattle remains alive in the jumbled NFC playoff picture. They take on the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday.
Kyler Murray threw for 230 yards and two touchdowns but it was not enough as the Arizona Cardinals lost 27-16 to the Chicago Bears. The Cardinals desperately need some help at the wide receiver position this offseason. James Conner was their leading receiver in this game with five catches for 67 yards and a touchdown. The Cardinals’ defense was gashed by the Bears’ rushing attack allowing 250 yards on the afternoon. Arizona takes on the Philadelphia Eagles in week 17.
