Around the NFC North: Week 1
The biggest win of week 1 in the NFC North came when the Detroit Lions beat the Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead on Thursday night. The Lions’ defense held reigning NFL MVP Patrick Mahomes to just 226 yards passing on the night. Jared Goff had an efficient night for Detroit in the win. He threw for 253 yards and a touchdown. Playing without the suspended Jameson Williams, Josh Reynolds stepped up and had 80 yards receiving on four catches. The Lions play the Seattle Seahawks at home in week two.
The Jordan Love era got off to a fast start for the Green Bay Packers in week one with a 38-20 road win over the Chicago Bears. Love threw for 245 yards and three touchdowns on the day. Aaron Jones also had a big day for the Packers with 127 total yards and two touchdowns. For the Bears, Justin Fields threw for 216 yards and ran for 59 yards, but turned the ball over twice in the loss. DJ Moore had just two catches in his Bears debut. Green Bay travels to Atlanta to take on the Falcons next week. The Bears travel to Tampa Bay to take on the Buccaneers.
It was a rough start to the 2023 NFL season for Kirk Cousins and the Minnesota Vikings. Cousins turned the ball over three times in the 20-17 loss. The turnovers did not stop Justin Jefferson from having a huge game. He caught 9 passes for 150 yards on 12 targets. Minnesota was undefeated in one-score games last season. They are off to a 0-1 start in that department this season. Things do not get any easier for the Vikings in week two when they travel to Philadelphia to take on the Eagles.
