Around the NFC East: Week 17
The Dallas Cowboys narrowly escaped with a 20-19 win over the Detroit Lions on Saturday night. The Lions scored late in the 4th quarter and attempted a two-point conversion to win the game. Detroit got the conversion but it was called back due to a “penalty.” They attempted it again after getting pushed back with the penalty but were not able to convert. It was a huge night for CeeDee Lamb who had 13 catches for 227 yards and a touchdown. The Cowboys now control their own destiny in the NFC East. If they beat the Washington Commanders in week 18 they will win the division.
Things have gone off the rails for the Philadelphia Eagles who lost 35-31 to the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday. The Eagles only managed 275 yards of total offense in the game. Jalen Hurts did throw three touchdowns but only threw for 167 yards. There are reportedly some issues in the locker room with players on the offensive side of the ball. The loss took control of the division out of their hands. They are in the playoffs but need a win against the New York Giants and Cowboys loss to the Commanders to win the NFC East.
The New York Giants had a chance to make a last-second field goal and knock off the Los Angeles Rams, but the Mason Crosby 54-yard attempt was no good and the Giants lost 26-25. It was a good day for Tyrod Taylor who threw for 319 yards with one touchdown and one interception. Darius Slayton racked up 106 yards receiving on the afternoon. The Giants wrap up the 2023 regular season against the Eagles on Sunday.
The Washington Commanders turned back to Sam Howell on Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers. Unfortunately for them, the results did not change. Howell only threw for 169 yards and was intercepted twice. He did manage one touchdown pass to Terry McLaurin who had four catches for 61 yards. The Commanders will be at the front of the line of teams evaluating the quarterbacks in the 2024 NFL Draft. Washington hosts the Cowboys in week 18.
