Around the NFC East: Week 1

The New York Giants, coming off a 2022 playoff berth, laid an egg on Sunday Night Football against the Dallas Cowboys. People were very critical of the huge contract the Giants gave quarterback Daniel Jones this offseason. Jones did not do anything to silence that criticism against Dallas. He completed just 15 of 28 passes and threw two interceptions. It was a quiet night for Cowboys’ quarterback Dak Prescott who threw for just 143 yards, but he did not need to do much on a night where his defense and special teams each scored a touchdown. Tony Pollard added two touchdowns on the ground. The Cowboys have a home date with the New York Jets next week. The Giants travel to Arizona to take on the Cardinals.

It was an interesting week 1 for the Philadelphia Eagles. They got a big road win against the New England Patriots 25-20. Philadelphia got the ball back with the 25-20 lead with 3:28 to play in the game. It looked like they were going to be able to run the clock out when Jalen Hurts ran for an 8-yard game. However, he fumbled and gave the ball back to the Patriots. In fact, New England would have two chances to take the lead after the 3:28 mark but were not able to convert. The Eagles have a home date with the Vikings in week two.

The Washington Commanders also got a 1-0 start with a 20-16 win over the hapless Arizona Cardinals. The Washington defense led the way in the win forcing two Joshua Dobbs fumbles. They also sacked Dobbs three times. Sam Howell, making just his second NFL start, threw for 202 yards in the win. The Commanders travel to Denver to take on the Broncos in week 2.
