Around the AFC West: Week 17
The Kansas City Chiefs clinched the AFC West title with their 25-17 win over the Cincinnati Bengals. Isiah Pacheco carried the ball 18 times for 130 yards. He added seven catches for 35 yards and a touchdown. Patrick Mahomes threw for 245 yards and a touchdown. Rashee Rice led the Chiefs’ pass catchers with five catches for 127 yards. Rice has really come into his own as the Chiefs’ #1 receiving option in the second half of the season. The Chiefs wrap up their season on the road against the Los Angeles Chargers.
The Denver Broncos beat those Chargers 16-9 on Sunday. Jarrett Stidham made his first start fo the season and threw for 224 yards and a touchdown. Stidham took over for Russell Wilson who was benched after week 16. For Los Angeles, Easton Stick threw for 220 yards. The disappointing season for Austin Ekeler continued. He had just 50 all-purpose yards in the loss. Both of these teams had high hopes coming into the season but will be watching the playoffs from the comfort of their own homes. The Broncos take on the Las Vegas Raiders in week 18.
Las Vegas saw their playoff hopes evaporate when they lost to the Indianapolis Colts 23-20. Aidan O’Connell threw for 299 yards and two touchdowns in the loss. Playing without Josh Jacobs again, Zamir White carried the ball 20 times for 71 yards. Davante Adams had a massive day with 13 catches for 126 yards and two touchdowns. Even with this loss, Antonio Pierce has done a nice job since taking over as the Raiders’ interim coach. He should have a good chance of landing the full-time job.
