Around the AFC West: Week 16

Antonio Pierce is making a strong case for himself to get the full-time head coaching job for the Las Vegas Raiders. This week he led the Raiders to a 20-14 win over the Kansas City Chiefs. The Raiders got the win largely on the backs of their defense who scored twice – once on a scoop and score and once on a pick six. They also sacked Patrick Mahomes four times. Las Vegas did get 145 yards rushing from Zamir White. Aidan O’Connell threw for just 62 yards but did not turn the ball over. Mahomes ended the day with 235 yards with one touchdown and one interception. He was also the Chiefs leading rusher with 53 yards. The Chiefs play the Cincinnati Bengals in week 17 while the Raiders play the Indianapolis Colts.

Things have really gone off the rails in Denver. After the Broncos lost 26-23 to the New England Patriots this week it was reported that the Broncos are benching Russell Wilson and will look to move on from him this offseason. If they do cut them, it will cost them close to $100 million in dead cap money over the next two seasons. Wilson was not terrible in the loss to the Patriots. He threw for 238 yards and two touchdowns. Jarrett Stidham will start for the Broncos this week when they play the Los Angeles Chargers.

Speaking of the Chargers, they lost 24-22 to the Buffalo Bills this week. Easton Stick threw for 215 yards in the loss. He spread the ball around to nine different pass catchers in the game. Joshua Palmer led the receivers with five catches for 47 yards. The Chargers find themselves in a run out the clock situation for the rest of this season after firing their head coach and losing Justin Herbert to an injury. The Chargers take on the Broncos next week in the much-anticipated Stick vs. Stidham matchup.
